摘要: A security zone is monitored for intrusion detection by dispersing therein a plurality of sensor nodes that, when an intrusion is detected, communicate with their neighboring sensor nodes without protocols other than a first tone. As the intrusion is detected by more sensor nodes, there is an increase in sensor node transmissions and, hence, an increase in the total power density in the security zone which is detected by a remote monitor for detecting and localizing the intrusion and providing an alert. In addition, certain of the sensor nodes also transmit a continuous second tone received by other sensor nodes. When an intrusion occurs, the transmission is blocked causing the receiving nodes to transmit the first tone to alert neighboring nodes.

摘要: A motor transmission element includes an axle, an expandable circumferential component and multiple rolled electroactive polymer (EAP) devices. The circumferential component is located at a contact radius from the axle for connection to a different rotating body and is mechanically connected to the axle. The rolled EAP devices are mechanically connected to the circumferential component and the axle. Each rolled EAP device has a pair of input electrodes and is configured to deform substantively parallel to a roll longitudinal axis upon application of a voltage difference. Deformation of a rolled EAP device causes a change in the contact radius. A voltage difference that expands the rolled EAP device increases the contact radius, and thereby the circumference of the transmission element. By varying the voltage, a continuously variable ratio can be achieved between a rate of rotation of the transmission element and a rate of rotation of the second body.

摘要: A medical capsule is provided which includes at least a housing, transceiver, ultrasonic transducer(s), a power source, a microprocessor, and is capable of carrying a medical payload. The capsule is ingestible or implantible in a human or animal body and communicates wirelessly via ultrasonic signals with one or more transceivers attached to the outside of the body. The capsule payload can perform diagnostic, analytical, treatment or imaging functions and its position within the body can be accurately monitored. A wireless system employing the capsule and external transceiver can also include a remote monitoring station accessed by radio frequency electromagnetic signals. Further, collaborative activity among the internal capsules is enabled by an inter-capsule and capsule-to-external transceiver acoustic communications net.

摘要: Protection is provided for software and data in single and multiple microprocessor system, including, but not limited to, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), backplane connected architectures, etc. The data can include databases, streaming data and code. The protection is provided by employing, singly or in combination, obscurant IC coatings, tamper detection and response circuitry, multiple component modules and software code encryption to prevent software from being stolen or altered. The software or data is protected during transport, during downloading into a processor or processor network, and also during execution and storage of code or a database within a host system. The data product resulting from processing within the protecting equipment may be encrypted to be sent safely to external locations were it may be stored or de-encrypted for further use.
