Abstract:
In an ebullated bed process, a residual hydrocarbon oil and a hydrogen containing gas is passed upwardly through an ebullated bed of catalyst in a hydrocracking zone at a temperature in the range of 650.degree. F. to 950.degree. F. and pressure of 1000 psia to 5000 psia. The hydrogen containing gas comprises hydrogen sulfide in an amount to maintain the sulfur content of the oil in the hydrocracking zone at 2 wt % to 10 wt %. A hydrocracked oil is recovered characterized by having a reduced sediment content.

A method for preparing a mixture of lower aliphatic alcohols from the reaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a sulfide-containing heavy metal catalyst under carbon-monoxide-hydrogenation conditions in which said catalyst comprises at least one sulfided heavy metal element selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium, and an alkali or alkaline earth promoter which has been treated with a nitrogen-containing compound, or a theramlly stable derivative thereof is provided.

A debridger for finely divided solids fed from a hopper to a screw feed by gravity. It has a heavy base that can rest on the threads of the screw feed and will be moved up and down over succeeding threads. There is a member attached to the base for extending up centrally in the hopper with radial arms reaching near the walls of the hopper.

Abstract:
A method of improving the fuel economy characteristic of a lubricant by friction reduction including mixing the lubricant with a C.sub.2 to C.sub.12 aliphatic carboxylate salt of molybdenum and a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate or zinc dialkyldithiocarbamate is disclosed. The synergistic interaction of the aliphatic carboxylate salt of molybdenum and the zinc salt results in at least a 30% reduction in the coefficient of friction at 100.degree. C.
