Abstract:
A vehicle wireless transmitter system includes a collision avoidance sensor in a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter generates a wireless signal, such as a garage door opener signal, based upon information from the collision avoidance sensor. The wireless transmitter generates a garage door opener signal when the collision avoidance sensor determines that the vehicle is within a predetermined distance of the garage. The wireless transmitter generates a garage door opener signal when the collision avoidance sensor determines that the vehicle is in the garage, the engine is no longer running and no motion is detected around the vehicle for a predetermined period of time.
Abstract:
A method and system for connecting proximately located telecommunications units are disclosed. The method and system may be used in a location aware telecommunications system that can determine the location of a telecommunications unit (TU) being used within the system. A user of a mobile telecommunications unit (MU) is connected to a TU when the MU is within a predetermined distance of a predetermined geographic location meeting predefined criteria. The TU to which the MU is connected may be automated or manually operated. In some embodiments, multiple MUs are connected when they are within a predetermined proximity to each other and a predefined criteria is met.
Abstract:
A dome switch (12) of an electrically operated product (10) includes an electrically conductive dome switch member (30) having a central dimple (36) and a peripheral portion (38) that is secured by two retainers (42) which permit sliding alignment of the dome switch member. A switch actuator (44) of the dome switch (12) has an alignment button (46) received by the dimple (36) of the dome switch member (30) so as to provide sliding of the dome switch member on a circuit board (16) and thereby providing alignment with first and second contacts (18, 20) to provide effective switch closing.
Abstract:
A passive garage door opener system includes a sensor for determining the position of the vehicle relative to the receiver. When the vehicle is within a predetermined area near the receiver, the transmitter sends the signal to open the garage door. Other conditions of the vehicle, such as speed and heading, may also be monitored to determine when and whether to send the signal.
Abstract:
An improved key system incorporates a number of electrical components. In one main aspect, the key is provided with electrical communication to components on the vehicle when the key is inserted into the ignition. The key connects to an antenna associated with the vehicle, such that the combined antenna size is greater than would otherwise be possible. In this application, the antenna is utilized for garage door opener purposes, and a switch is mounted on the key for actuation of the garage door opener. In another aspect, the key is recharged when inserted into the ignition. Further, the key may be provided with various other functions such as memo, vehicle deactivation, two-way communication, and other security applications. In embodiments of the key, the switches are positioned relative to a thumb area such that inadvertent actuation of the switches is made less likely.
Abstract:
A display panel for displaying information to a vehicle operator is placed on a rear surface of a sunvisor for the vehicle. The display panel is hidden when the sunvisor is moved to a stowed position but is easily accessible to the operator when the sunvisor is moved to its extended position. The location of the display panel on the sunvisor allows the operator easy access to the information without diverting information from the road. In addition, control buttons are associated with the display panel such that the operator is able to adjust the information displayed on the panel, or to adjust a component for responding to the information displayed on the panel.
Abstract:
A method of fitting content elements of a composition to a media layout is disclosed. Each content element has an associated content type, and the media layout has a content rendering space for presenting information contained in the content elements. For each content type, a content scale factor is initialized and extent values are computed. If the content elements do not fit within the media layout, then non-fit factors are determined, the scale factors and extent values are recomputed and these steps are repeated until the content fits. Another method computes a layout of a composition in a recursive fashion using a design tree. Design children components of a current component in the design tree are identified, and new media components between the current component and the identified design children components are created. A media division for each media component indicates a portion of the layout for each media component. Another method computes a layout of a composition for a chosen medium. The composition is represented in a media tree that has components, each associated with a media region of the chosen medium. The method steps down through the media tree of the composition and assigns tentative media regions to each of the components. The extent of each of the components is measured to return a set of values indicating a media region of the medium that is required by each of the components. Finally, the method steps up through the media tree of the composition and assigns new media regions to each of the components.
Abstract:
A device for testing connectivity is provided. The device includes a first connector including a contact pin and a spacer for biasing the contact pin away from a spring contact pin of a second connector, when the first connector is inserted into the second connector. The device also includes an indicator, coupled to the contact pin of the first connector, for indicating whether the contact pin of the first connector is in contact with the spring contact pin of the second connector.
Abstract:
A method and system for selectively connecting proximately located telecommunications units are disclosed. The method and system may be used in a location aware telecommunications system that can determine the location of a telecommunications unit (TU) being used within the system. A first TU may be connected to a second TU when the first and second TUs are within a predetermined distance of each other and when a first user associated with the first TU may be connected to a second user associated with the second TU on a graph representing individual relationships, such as an acquaintance graph or genealogical tree. The connection may further be based on whether the first and second users have a less than a maximum threshold degree of separation within the relationship graph.
Abstract:
A vehicle wireless transmitter system includes a portable fob and a repeater mounted in the vehicle headliner. The portable fob includes user actuated buttons and code generation circuitry for a remote keyless entry system, garage door opener system, and home security system. When the user activates the garage door opener button on the portable fob from within the vehicle, the code generated by the portable fob is repeated by the repeater mounted in the vehicle headliner and retransmitted in a more powerful signal directed through the windshield. Thus, the portable fob insures that the code generation circuitry is removed from the vehicle with the user, while the repeater insures that the transmitted signal has enough power to provide satisfactory range.
