摘要： A vehicle navigation system enables a recognized vehicle position to be corrected to be a position on the correct road even if the vehicle position has been erroneously determined to be on a wrong road, after passing a branching point. A first map matching processing section obtains a most probable candidate road and other candidate roads by map matching processing after passing a branching point, and corrects the vehicle position to a position on the most probable candidate road, the corrected position being regarded as representing the actual vehicle position. A second map matching section corrects the dead-reckoned vehicle position to be a position on another candidate road, and sets the corrected position as a temporary vehicle position. Thereafter, the map matching processing sections perform first map matching processing based on the actual vehicle position and second map matching based on the temporary vehicle position each time a predetermined distance is traveled, in parallel with each other. When the first map matching processing finds no road on which map matching is to be performed, the first map matching is continued by setting the temporary vehicle position as the actual vehicle position.

When the apparatus detects entry of the vehicle into such an area off the roads stored in the map data base, a guidance picture is changed to a map picture, and the apparatus stops correcting the vehicle position by map matching. When the apparatus detects an exit of the vehicle from such an area, the apparatus restarts correcting the vehicle position by map matching and a map picture is changed to a guidance picture.

摘要： A navigation apparatus is provided which can search out, even if a vehicle goes off of a guide route, a route which allows the vehicle to return to the guide route so that the travel distance to a destination may be comparatively short. A guide route control unit calculates, when the vehicle is in an off-route condition, rectilinear distances from a vehicle position to nodes on the guide route and route distances from the nodes to the destination along the guide route. The control unit modifies the rectilinear distances and the route distances using first and second weighting coefficients, respectively, which are set so that the second weighting coefficient is greater than the first weighting coefficient, and calculates sums of the rectilinear and route distances modified with the first and second weighting coefficients, respectively. The control unit then determines one of the nodes which exhibits the lowest one of the sums as a return point, and searches for a route from the vehicle position to the return point. The navigation apparatus guides the vehicle to the return point along the route thus searched out.

摘要： A clock time adjustment system for a vehicle equipped with navigation system whereby the time on the system clock is adjusted based upon position of the vehicle and the time signal provided by the Global Positioning Satellite System (GPS). The navigation system is capable of determining vehicle position and the system memory is provided with data corresponding to regional time zones. The system determines the current position of the vehicle and then calculates the proper time for the vehicle's location using data corresponding to the regional time zone where the vehicle is currently located. The system also stores, into memory, road data having routes that are undesirable for travel at particular times which may then be used to adjust the trip route to the destination by comparing the road data and time to determine an optimal route that avoids roads that are undesirable for traveling during a specific period.

A display is provided for displaying the guide route to the operator of the vehicle.
