摘要: PDA systems, devices and methods are provided to account for insignificant route segments to enhance a route guidance experience. A PDA is provided according to one aspect. The PDA includes a processor and a memory adapted to communicate with the processor. The processor and memory are adapted to cooperate to provide route guidance that accounts for insignificant route segments. According to various embodiments, insignificant route segments are accounted for by nullifying and/or modifying route guidance maneuvers associated with the insignificant route segments. Other aspects are provided herein.

摘要: In a navigation device, user profiles may be stored and used to navigate a user who may be driving in a vehicle, on foot, or in other mode of transportation. Each user profile corresponds to one of the user's personae. For example, the user business profile corresponding to the user's business persona may be different from the user personal profile corresponding to the user's personal persona. For instance, the user business profile may include fine-dining type restaurants for business meetings while the user personal profile may instead include fast-food type restaurants for personal dining. The navigation device provides the user with a navigated route, together with information concerning the favorite facilities and events surrounding the navigated route, which satisfy the preferences in a selected user profile. In addition, blockages may also be established using the device to avoid selected areas, e.g., high crime rate areas, in the navigated route, or to block transmission of selected information concerning, e.g., uninteresting facilities and events, to the navigation device.

摘要: A route guide apparatus and method finds a route to a destination and supplies the route to a user terminal. The apparatus stores information regarding facilities which are landmarks, searches for a route that reaches the destination and that passes near at least one of the facilities which is a landmark, and supplies the route to a user terminal. The route guidance apparatus and method may further store advertisement information. In that case, preferably a search is made for a route that passes near the facility which is a landmark and whose advertisement information is to be supplied to the user. This enables advertisers to supply advertisement information to the user when the user passes near the landmark facility.

摘要: A vehicle navigation apparatus that does not output an inappropriate or irrelevant guidance picture display or spoken guidance even when the vehicle enters an area off the roads (e.g. a parking lot, campus, factory, or facility grounds, or park) stored in the apparatus' road map data base, and which provides a correct guidance picture display and a correct spoken guidance for navigation to a destination. When the apparatus detects entry of the vehicle into such an area off the roads stored in the map data base, a guidance picture is changed to a map picture, and the apparatus stops correcting the vehicle position by map matching. When the apparatus detects an exit of the vehicle from such an area, the apparatus restarts correcting the vehicle position by map matching and a map picture is changed to a guidance picture.

摘要: A feature provided by a navigation system to provide guidance to a driver of a vehicle. The feature comprises multiple progress bars displayed on a display screen of the navigation system. The multiple progress bars feature is displayed when the vehicle is approaching a location at which a maneuver, such as a turn, onto a road is to be made and another road is close by and might be confused with the road onto which the maneuver should be made. One of the multiple progress bars represents the vehicle's approach toward the road onto which the maneuver should be made and the other of the multiple progress bars represents the vehicle's approach toward the road not to be taken. As the vehicle approaches both roads, the progress bars are updated indicating the vehicle's relative approach to both the road onto which the maneuver should be made and the road not to be taken. The multiple progress bars feature provides meaningful information to the driver in a clear and unambiguous way thereby assisting the driver to make the proper maneuver.

摘要: The described navigation system makes use of the attribute pertaining to the existence of “preferred directions,” in particular, inside multi-story car parks. These preferred directions are not limited to a plane or to an orientation. Preferred directions are, in particular, longer entry and exit paths. The method detects a departure from the digitized area and then determines a preferred direction that is defined as a principle axis or a principle axis direction. When traveling within the non-digitized area, e.g. of a multi-story car park, the system monitors whether the vehicle moves within a predetermined limit of the previously defined principle axis direction. If this is the case, it is determined whether a deviation exists and this deviation is optionally corrected to conform with the principle axis direction. This enables compensation of errors that are caused, in particular, by the direction detection.
