The use of crosslinked copolymers obtainable by precipitation polymerization of monomer mixtures comprising (a) monoethylenically unsaturated C3-C8-carboxylic acids, their anhydrides or mixtures of said carboxylic acids and anhydrides, (b) compounds with at least 2 non-conjugated ethylenic double bonds in the molecule as crosslinkers and, where appropriate, (c) other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers which are copolymerizable with monomers (a) and (b), in the presence of free-radical polymerization initiators and from 0.1 to 20% by weight, based on the monomers used, of saturated, nonionic surface-active compounds, as stabilizer in oil-in-water emulsions in amounts of from 0.01 to 5% of the weight of the emulsions, and cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations based on oil-in-water emulsions which contain said precipitation polymers.

The present invention relates to water-soluble or water-dispersible polyurethanes of a water-dispersible polyurethane prepolymer having terminal isocyanate groups and a primary or secondary amine having at least one ionogenic or ionic group, and to the salts thereof. The novel polyurethanes can be used as auxiliaries in cosmetology and pharmacy and, in particular, as hair lacquers having enhanced ease of washoff.

C. and a content of organic volatile constituents .ltoreq.0.5% by weight, and is at least 20% by weight composed of a (meth)acrylic ester.

The disclosure relates to a copolymer obtainable by radically initiated polymerization of the following: A) 70-99.9 wt. % an olefinically unsaturated C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 monocarboxylic acid, an olefinically unsaturated C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride, or a mixture of such carboxylic acids; with B) 0.1-30 wt. % one or more multiply olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives of formula (I)Z--Y--(CHR.sup.3 --CH.sub.2 --X).sub.n --R.sup.4 (I)in which Z is a vinyl or allyl group or structure (a), ##STR1## R.sup.1, R.sup.2 are hydrogen or methyl, R.sup.3 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R.sup.4 is a singly or multiply olefinically unsaturated alkenyl or cycloalkenyl group or a singly or doubly olefinically unsaturated arylalkylene group, X is oxygen or NH, Y is oxygen, NH or N-alkyl, n is a number between 0 and 50; and C) 0-29.9 wt. % other copolymerizable monomers.
