摘要: A highly-scalable parallel processing computer system architecture is described. The parallel processing system comprises a plurality of compute nodes for executing applications, a plurality of I/O nodes, each communicatively coupled to a plurality of storage resources, and an interconnect fabric providing communication between any of the compute nodes and any of the I/O nodes. The interconnect fabric comprises a network for connecting the compute nodes and the I/O nodes, the network comprising a plurality of switch nodes arranged into more than g(logbN) switch node stages, wherein b is a total number of switch node input/output ports, and g(x) indicates a ceiling function providing the smallest integer not less than the argument x, the switch node stages thereby providing a plurality of paths between any network input port and network output port.

摘要: A method of controlling an input/output (I/O) device connected to a computer to facilitate fast I/O data transfers. An address space for the I/O device is created in the virtual memory of the computer, wherein the address space comprises virtual registers that are used to directly control the I/O device. In essence, control registers and/or memory of the I/O device are mapped into the virtual address space, and the virtual address space is backed by control registers and/or memory on the I/O device. Thereafter, the I/O device detects writes to the address space. As a result, a pre-defined sequence of actions can be triggered in the I/O device by programming specified values into the data written into the mapped virtual address space.

摘要: Computing capacity of a computing environment can be managed by controlling it associated processing capacity based on a target (or desired) capacity. In addition, fine-grained control over the processing capacity can be exercised. For example, a computing system can change the processing capacity (e.g., processing rate) of at least one processor operating based on a target capacity. The computing system may also be operable to change the processing capacity based on a measured processing capacity (e.g., a measured average of various processing rates of a processor taken over a period of time when a processor may have been operating at different processing rates over that period). By way of example, the processing rate of a processor can be switched between 1/8 and 2/8 of a maximum processing rate to achieve virtually any effective processing rates between them.

摘要: To determine a system condition, temperature information from at least one temperature sensor in the system is received, along with second information from at least a second type of sensor in the system. An out-of-range temperature condition is detected according to the received temperature information. According to the second information, one of plural potential causes of the out-of-range temperature condition is selected.

摘要: An electronic hardware cabinet includes a forced-air component positioned to force a stream of air to move through the cabinet and at least two electronic assemblies mounted within the cabinet, each of which includes a heat-generating component. The electronic assemblies are positioned so that a portion of the stream of air is heated by a first one of the heat-generating components and, thereafter, that portion of the stream of air moves toward a second one of the heat-generating components. An airflow diverter is positioned between the electronic assemblies to deflect that portion of the stream of air heated by the first heat-generating component to prevent it from reaching the second heat-generating component.
