Abstract:
An apparatus and method for providing a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. The apparatus includes a fragmentation unit, a Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packet generator, and a communication unit. The fragmentation unit fragmentizes MBS traffic received from a network for synchronization. The GRE packet generator generates a GRE packet with each of segments from the fragmentation unit. The communication unit transmits the GRE packet from the GRE packet generator to a Base Station (BS) in consideration of a packet period.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service using a Payload Header Suppression (PHS) method in a mobile communication system are provided. The method includes extracting header information by analyzing a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer message that is included in a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling message received from a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) system, generating a Classification (CS) rule based on the extracted header information, determining whether to generate a new service flow based on the extracted header information, generating a PHS rule using a Dynamic Service Addition (DSA) when the new service flow is generated, and generating the PHS rule using a Dynamic Service Change (DSC) when the new service flow is not generated, and transmitting the generated CS rule and PHS rule to the WiMAX system.
Abstract:
A power control method of a base station in a wireless communication system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is provided for reducing power consumption by turning off the bias of the power amplifier for the duration of a symbol carrying no user data. The method includes checking scheduling information of radio resources, detecting a symbol carrying no user data, based on the scheduling information, and turning off a bias of the power amplifier for a symbol duration of the symbol carrying no user data. The transmission power control method is capable of reducing power consumption of the base station by turning off the bias of the power amplifier of the base station for the symbol duration in which no user data is transmitted.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for receiving a service guide for a user terminal in a broadband wireless access system. The method includes transmitting, by the user terminal, a service guide request message to a MultiCast and BroadCast Service (MCBCS) server, and receiving, from the MCBCS server, a service guide response message including a mapping table. The mapping table identifies application layer name tags versus Medium Access Control (MAC) layer name tags with respect to broadcast channels, each of the MAC layer name tags being a Multicast Connection IDentifier (MCID) and each of the application layer name tags being a broadcast channel Internet Protocol (IP).
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for managing a buffer of a Radio Access Station (RAS) in a communication system are provided. An available buffer space determiner sets a threshold for each service class for scheduling packet input/output of the buffer according to priority of a service class, estimates and stores, upon receipt of a packet at the buffer, an available space size of the buffer after the packet reception, compares the estimated available space size of the buffer with a first threshold corresponding to a first service class indicative of a service class of the packet, and schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to the comparison result. A processor module schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to an output of the available buffer space determiner. The present invention can improve quality of services through service differentiation based on priorities of service classes and buffer management based on characteristics of the corresponding service traffics.
Abstract:
Apparatuses and methods for providing an emergency service in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes allocating a Connection IDentifier (CID) used to transmit the emergency service message, determining a Convergence Sublayer (CS) type for processing the emergency service message, generating a Downlink Channel Descriptor (DCD) message which comprises at least one of the allocated CID and information relating to the determined CS type, and transmitting the generated DCD message to a Mobile Station (MS).
Abstract:
A scheduling apparatus and method for proportional resource allocation among Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are provided. The method includes, for each MVNO, allocating a dedicated resource of each MVNO to Quality of Service (QoS) traffic in consideration of priorities, for each MVNO, determining a presence or absence of unscheduled QoS traffic, and for MVNOs each of which has the unscheduled QoS traffic, allocating a common resource shared by all MVNOs to the unscheduled QoS traffic in consideration of priorities without distinguishing each MVNO. Accordingly, proportional resource allocation depending on a pre-set ratio can be guaranteed, efficiency of resource use can be improved, and QoS can be guaranteed.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system. In a method for operating a user terminal in a BWA system, an idle timer is driven when a flow for unicast connection has no traffic in an awake mode. Whether a broadcast service is being received is checked when the idle timer expires. The user terminal transitions from the awake mode to a fake idle mode when the broadcast service is being received.
Abstract:
Header suppression/compression apparatus and method for providing Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. The method includes checking an overhead ratio of a packet based on the MBS channels; when the overhead ratio of the packet is greater than a threshold, compressing a header of the packet according to a compression algorithm preset for the corresponding MBS channel or zone; and when the overhead ratio of the packet is less than the threshold, uncompressing the header of the packet.
Abstract:
A network includes a Mobile Station (MS) for sending a Service Flow (SF) modification request message to a Base Station (BS) to modify an SF. The BS sends a path modification request message to a serving SF Authorization (SFA) when there is the information on the SF. The BS also sends an SF modification response message comprising a Confirmation Code ‘Reject SF not found’ to the MS when there is no information on the SF. The serving SFA sends a resource reservation request message to an anchor SFA when there is the information on the SF, and sends a path modification response message comprising a Failure Indication (FI) ‘Requested Context Unavailable’ to the BS when there is no information on the SF. The anchor SFA sends a resource reservation response message comprising the FI ‘Requested Context Unavailable’ to the serving SFA when there is no information on the SF.
