Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for controlling the operation of a burner used for heating liquid glass feeders of a glass furnace. A burner is supplied with a fuel and oxygen. An additional gas is injected so that the sum of the oxygen flow, the fuel flow and the additional gas flow is greater than a minimum cooling flow for the burner.
Abstract:
A simple, compact burner achieves a more optimal melting of a solid charge followed by performance of combustion under distributed combustion conditions. The burner achieves this by fluidically bending the flame towards the solid charge during a melting phase with an actuating jet of oxidant, redirecting the flame in a direction away from the charge, and staging injection of oxidant among primary and secondary portions during a distributed combustion phase.
Abstract:
A leaf spring assembly includes a safety strap extending along the bottom of a plurality of stacked leaf springs that are held in a stacked relationship by a leaf fastener. The strap is attached to each leaf spring in the stack by fasteners at opposite ends of the spring such that adjacent leaf springs are connected on each side of the fastener. In the event that any one of the springs fails between the leaf fastener and one of the ends at which the strap is attached, the broken pieces of the spring remain connected to the other springs in the stack. This prevents pieces from breaking free of the assembly and creating road hazards in the event of spring failure.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a combustion method which is performed in a furnace that is equipped with energy recovery means and burners, whereby the heat from the combustion fumes is recovered by energy recovery means and said recovered heat is used in order to heat the air. According to the invention, at least part of the burners performs the combustion of an oxygen-rich comburent and a fuel and at least part of the air heated by the energy recovery means is used to heat the oxygen-rich comburent and/or fuel for the burners.
Abstract:
Process for melting scrap metal in a furnace comprising the steps of feeding a charge of solid scrap metal to the furnace, supplying fuel and an oxygen-rich oxidant to the furnace and combusting the fuel with the oxidant to generate heat inside the furnace, melting the charge of solid scrap metal in the furnace by means of the heat, withdrawing the molten metal from the furnace. Following the step of feeding the charge of solid scrap metal to the furnace, the fuel is combusted with the oxidant so as to generate one or more visible flames in the furnace above the charge and before the step of withdrawing the molten metal from the furnace, the fuel is combusted with the oxidant so as to generate flameless combustion in the furnace above the molten metal.

Abstract:
U-shaped cushions, also known as shanks or spring members, resiliently support a gang of disks on the frame of a disk harrow. The agricultural disk cushion is manufactured from a round section of raw material which is lighter and more resistant to torsion related failure than traditional rectangular section shanks. Two leg portions are each tapered to have flat surfaces on opposite sides for flush fitting with mounting elements, while a central portion connecting them remains circular in cross section. The round cross section in this critical area can withstand severe omni-directional loading, as its resistance is equal in all directions The spring rate the leg portions of the disk cushion can be tailored individually to meet the requirements of the application.
