摘要： An exemplary infusion system for accessing an implanted device is disclosed comprising an insertion assembly, a hub comprising a sealable path configured to receive at least a portion of the insertion assembly, a flexible catheter attached to the hub and configured to receive at least a portion of the insertion assembly, and an extension tube attached to the hub. The hub may comprise a manifold element configured to provide fluid communication between the flexible catheter and the extension tube. The hub may also comprise a septum configured to seal the sealable path upon removal of the insertion assembly from the flexible catheter. The extension tube may also be configured to receive at least a portion of the insertion assembly. Exemplary methods of providing a fluid communication path to an implanted device are also disclosed.

摘要： A protective cover for use on a device having a switch. The protective cover prevents inadvertent or accidental operation of the switch, while allowing deliberate or intentional operation of the switch with the protective cover in place. The protective cover includes a plate and a pair of access apertures defined by the plate. One of the pair of access apertures is positioned to enable operation of the switch from a first position to a second position, and the other of the pair of access apertures is positioned to enable operation of the switch from the second position to the first position. The area of each access aperture is of suitable size to prevent inadvertent operation of the switch. The plate is attached to the device using attaching means that allows the plate to be attached to the device in only one orientation.

摘要： A shaped guidewire for use in medical applications is disclosed. The guidewire is shaped so as to prevent inadvertent advancement of the guidewire into the corpus of a patient during use. In one embodiment, the guidewire includes an elongate body that defines proximal and distal ends. The guidewire body further defines a shaped portion that is positioned intermediate the proximal and distal ends. The shaped portion of the guidewire is at least partially composed of a shape memory material, such as nitinol, and is deflected from a longitudinal axis defined by an undeflected portion of the guidewire body. The shaped portion is disposed in one embodiment at the proximal end of the guidewire. In another embodiment, a proximal portion of the nitinol guidewire can be treated to impart malleability and enable deflection by a clinician. Methods for forming the shaped or malleable guidewire to include a deflected portion are disclosed.
