摘要: This is in the general field of surgical instruments and is specifically a delivery catheter with a flexible, proximally-manipulated hinge or joint region. The inventive catheter may have a balloon region. The catheter may have a shaft of varying flexibility which contains several lumen. The inner, or delivery, lumen generally may be used with a guidewire to access target sites within the body via the flexible, small diameter vessels of the body. The delivery lumen may be also used for placement of occlusive materials, e.g., in an aneurysm. Inflation of the micro-balloon, located near the distal tip of the catheter, is effected using the inflation lumen. The push/pull wire lumen contains a wire, which when manipulated, flexes the catheter's distal tip. The push/pull wire tubing may have a variable thickness to aid in adjusting the degree of flexibility. Moreover, the delivery catheter may be capable of twisting in a helical or corkscrew-like manner for traversing certain vasculature. This may be accomplished by winding the push/pull wire within the catheter and fixedly attaching it. The catheter may further include an entry in the catheter wall to allow for the insertion of a guidewire; this may facilitate the rapid exchange of catheter devices as desired by the user.

The system includes an outer housing, a first cylindrical fenestrated member within and immovable relative to the outer housing, a second cylindrical fenestrated member defining an inner tissue collection chamber and being positioned within and rotatable relative to the first cylindrical fenestrated member, a plunger axially movable within the second fenestrated member, an elongate rod being connected to the plunger, and one or more stop units attached to the outer housing. The present invention also relates to methods for separating components of a tissue sample using a system according to the present invention.

摘要: A system and method for determining a pH level of blood in a vessel of a patient including a flexible elongated member configured and dimensioned for insertion in the vessel of the patient, a sensor positioned at the distal portion of the elongated member, and a connector connecting the elongated member to an indicator. The sensor measures the pH level of blood downstream of the blood clot. A system and method are also provided for determining a density of a blood clot in a vessel of a patient for subsequent selection of a treatment method. The system includes a sensor positioned at the distal portion of the elongated member, and a connector connecting the elongated member to an indicator, wherein the sensor determines the density of the blood clot and the indicator provides an indication of the density of the clot.

摘要: A guidewire loaded stent for delivery through a catheter is described herein. The stent delivery assembly can deliver and place a stent within tortuous regions of the body which are accessible to guidewires but inaccessible to stenting catheters. The assembly comprises a guidewire covered in part by a retractable sheath and a radially expandable stent near or at the distal end of the guidewire. The whole assembly is advanced through conventional catheters or it may be used alone. In either case, when the stent is adjacent to a treatment site within the body, the sheath is retracted proximally to expose the stent for radial expansion into contact with the vessel wall. Radio-opaque marker bands are optionally located on either side or both sides of the stent on the guidewire body to aid in visual placement. The assembly can optionally include an expandable balloon on the guidewire for different treatment modalities.

摘要: An assembly for breaking up vascular thrombus or other obstructive material including a motor housing having a motor, a motor shaft extending from the motor, a first housing positioned at a distal end of the motor shaft, a rotational thrombectomy wire and a second housing positioned at a proximal end of the wire. The first housing has a first magnet positioned therein and recessed from the distal edge of the first housing which has a first plurality of teeth. The second housing has a second magnet positioned therein and recessed from a proximal edge of the second housing which has a second plurality of teeth intermeshing with the first plurality of teeth when the wire is coupled to the motor shaft. The first and second plurality of teeth slip when a torque of the motor shaft exceeds a predetermined value.
