Abstract:
This present disclosure may relate to a pillow configured to receive a person in a face down position, the pillow including a receiving portion and one or more pathways. The receiving portion and pathways may be configured to deliver air to a user and to receive exhaled air from a user. The pillow may also include a chamber which may connect the receiving portion and pathways and one or more valves which may facilitate air exchange between the chamber and the pathways.
Abstract:
A system for permitting remote user access to regions of memory that have been exported for remote direct memory access purposes. The system supports dynamically changing access privileges to remote users without requiring intervention from an operating system. The system may include a memory region table and a memory window table for supporting address translations. Entries in the memory window table may include a region remote access key and a window remote access key. The memory region table may include fields for a physical address, an access value, a protection domain value, and a length of memory region.
Abstract:
A method of reading configuration ROM in a serial bus device reads only portions of the ROM that are organized in a directory structure. Typically, the configuration ROM follows the IEEE 1212 and/or 1394 standards and uses an IEEE 1394 bus. Based on the information read from the configuration ROM, a connecting computer can determine the appropriate device driver to use for communications with the device.
Abstract:
A process for preparing ring-halogenated .alpha.-methylstyrenes from the corresponding .alpha.-halocumenes is disclosed. The dehydrohalogenation is accomplished using only water and optionally an organic solvent. The process eliminates the need for added base and a phase-transfer catalyst.
Abstract:
A swim fin is herein presented. The swim fin can include a frame and one or more louvered blades coupled to the frame. The swim fin can additionally or alternatively include a proximal mount coupled to a proximal portion of the frame and configured to attach to the leg of a swimmer, and a distal mount coupled to a distal portion of the frame and configured to attach to the leg, foot, or the ankle of a swimmer.
Abstract:
Retractable swim fins that attach to the legs of a swimmer to aid movement through the water. In one example embodiment, a retractable swim fin includes an upper support frame, a lower support frame, and a sliding assembly connecting the upper support frame to the lower support frame. The upper support frame is configured to be attached to the front of a swimmer's lower leg. The lower support frame includes means for aquatic propulsion and is configured to extend, in a swimming position, to a position beneath the sole of the swimmer's foot. The lower support frame is also configured to retract, in a walking position, to a position above the sole of the swimmer's foot. The walking position enables the swimmer to walk barefoot on a surface without the lower support frame substantially contacting the surface. The sliding assembly is configured to allow the lower support frame to retract.
Abstract:
A process for recovering acetic acid from a mother liquor containing acetic acid, formic acid, acetic anhydride and formic acetic anhydride comprising the steps of:(a) heating said mother liquor to a temperature greater than or equal to about 70.degree. C. for a time period ranging from about 1 hour to about 24 hours to convert all of said formic acetic anhydride to acetic acid and gaseous carbon monoxide and to fully deplete either said acetic anhydride or said formic acid, whichever is initially present in a stoichiometric lesser amount and thereby produce a mixture comprising acetic acid and either acetic anhydride or formic acid, whichever has been depleted; and(b) separating said acetic acid from the remainder of said mixture produced in step (a) is provided.
Abstract:
A one-pot process for the preparation of .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester hydrochloride is disclosed (.alpha.-APM(HCl)). .alpha.-APM(HCl) is an intermediate in the preparation of aspartame.
Abstract:
Polyoxazoline compounds are prepared by reacting a polymercaptan with a 2-alkenyloxazoline or a 2-alkenyloxazine. The compounds so prepared have at least two oxazoline or oxazine functionalities and can be employed in applications where a compound having an oxazoline or oxazine functionality has useful activity.
Abstract:
An improved process for preparing derivatives of mercaptophenols containing nitrile, carbonyl, sulphone or ester groups characterized by reacting the components in a polar solvent with an amine catalyst. The catalyst can be removed from the product by co-distillation with the solvent to leave a relatively pure product free of contaminant without the need for further purification steps. The preferred amine catalysts are tertiary amines.
