摘要:
Devices and surgical methods treat various types of adult spinal pathologies, such as degenerative spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, degenerative lumbar scoliosis, and kyphoscoliosis. Various types of spinal joint replacement prostheses, surgical procedures for performing spinal joint replacements, and surgical instruments are used to perform the surgical procedures.

Systems and methods insert an expandable body in a collapsed configuration into a space defined between adjacent vertebral bodies. The systems and methods cause expansion of the expandable body within the space, thereby pushing apart adjacent vertebral bodies as part of a therapeutic procedure.

A posterior percutaneous access path is established into a vertebral body having a cortical wall enclosing a cancellous bone volume. An implant is placed in the cancellous bone volume through the posterior percutaneous access path.

An expandable structure carried at the end of a catheter tube assembly can be contracted and/or wrapped to present a reduced profile during deployment and/or removal from a targeted tissue site.

A structure is prepared from a vertebral body having a cortical wall enclosing a cancellous bone volume. The structure comprises a cavity formed within the cancellous bone volume by expansion of an expandable device, and a volume of bone filling material occupying the cavity.

Cephalad and caudal vertebral facet joint prostheses and methods of use are provided. The prostheses provide an artificial facet joint structure including an artificial articular configuration unlike the preexisting articular configuration. The radii and material stress values of the prostheses are configured to sustain contact stress. The cephalad prosthesis provides for posterior-anterior adjustment. Both prostheses permit lateral adjustment and adjustment to accommodate interpedicle distance. Further, the prostheses may be customized to provide a pre-defined lordotic angle and a pre-defined pedicle entry angle.

A tubular member is sized and configured to establish an access path to bone having an interior volume occupied, at least in part, by cancellous bone. The tubular member includes a distal end portion having at least one opening. A structure is sized and configured to be carried by the tubular member and controllably advanced through the at least one opening to define a cutting surface that projects outside the distal end portion. The cutting surface has a dimension capable of cutting cancellous bone in response to rotation of the tubular member within the cancellous bone.

The invention discloses methods and devices for repairing, replacing and/or augmenting natural facet joint surfaces and/or facet capsules. A facet joint restoration device of the invention for use in a restoring a facet joint surface comprises: a cephalad facet joint element comprising a flexible member adapted to engage a first vertebrae and an artificial cephalad joint; and a caudad facet joint element comprising a connector adapted for fixation to a second vertebrae and an artificial caudad joint adapted to engage the cephalad facet joint. In another embodiment, the invention discloses a facet joint replacement device for use in replacing all or a portion of a natural facet joint between a first vertebrae and a second vertebrae comprising: a first cephalad facet joint element having a fixation member adapted to engage a lamina or spinous process of the first vertebrae and a first caudad facet joint element, the first caudad facet joint element comprising a first caudad connector adapted to fixate to the second vertebral body and an artificial caudad facet surface adapted to engage with the cephalad facet joint element.
