摘要: An active chaff may be released by an aircraft to assist the aircraft in evading at least one of radar detection and a missile. The active chaff may include a signal generator, a signal spreading device, a microprocessor, a power source, and a substantially high-drag aerodynamic envelope. The signal generator may emit a signal to assist the aircraft in evading radar detection and/or a missile. The signal spreading device may spread the generated signal. The microprocessor may control the signal generator and the signal spreading device. The power source may power the signal generator and the microprocessor. Each of the signal generator, signal spreading device, microprocessor, and power source may be located on or within the substantially high-drag aerodynamic envelope.

摘要: A surgical wound retractor is adapted to dilate a wound stretchable to a desired diameter, the retractor includes a first ring having a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and being adapted for disposition interiorly of the wound. A second ring has a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and is adapted for disposition exteriorly of the wound. A plurality of retraction elements are disposed in a generally cylindrical relationship to each other, between the first ring and the second ring. These elements extend through the wound to exert a radial retraction force on the wound which is dependent on the distance separating the first ring and the second ring Retraction elements, both distensible and non-distensible are contemplated with appropriate attachment means at the rings to provide for variations in the retraction force. With a suitable retraction sleeve, a third ring can be provided to form a circumferential retainer to vary the retraction force. Rings can also be made inflatable or self-expanding to vary the retraction force. An associated method includes the step of rolling the second ring circumferentially of the third ring to form the circumferential retainer.

摘要: The present invention is a two-wheel drive motorcycle. The drive trait that supplies power to the front wheel is modified to include a series of rigid shafts or other internalized drive systems. The front wheel drive consists of components located on the axis of steering within the head tube and positioned symmetrically in a counterbalancing fashion within the front fork in order to counteract the torque reactions from the rotating front wheel drive while providing a full range of steering. The front wheel drive lengthens and shortens in parallel with the shock-absorbing front fork. An engagement clutch, a one-way hub, and torque limiting clutch for the front wheel drive are also disclosed.

摘要: A process for decontaminating radioactive material comprises the step of contacting the material with a dissolving composition to dissolve the contaminants in the material, said composition comprising a dilute solution of about 0.05 molar ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, about 0.1 molar carbonate, about 10 grams per liter hydrogen peroxide and an effective amount of sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH of the composition to a pH from about 9 to about 11. Also included are the steps of separating the dissolving composition containing the dissolved contaminants from the contacted material and recovering dissolved contaminants from the dissolving composition that has been separated from the material. A composition for dissolving radioactive contaminants in a material, comprising a dilute solution having a basic pH and effective amounts of a chelating agent and a carbonate sufficient to dissolve radioactive contaminants is also provided.

摘要: A system for marking a plurality of zones within a cellular service area. One or more marker transmitters are disposed throughout a cellular area to transmit a zone identification signal that is independent of normal RF cellular coverage to a mobile or portable cellular receiver. Each zone identification signal is transmitted in a radio frequency coverage area that illuminates the zone to be identified and is constrained by a similar transmitter jamming the zone signal. The marker transmitters are programmed to transmit the zone identification signal during a predefined time slot so that more than one marker transmitter may simultaneously transmit the zone identification signal, thereby increasing the area in which the zone identification signal can be received by the mobile unit. In order to reduce the area in which a zone identification signal may be received by a mobile unit, the marker transmitters may transmit a jamming signal at the same time as the zone identification signal is transmitted.

摘要: A method comprises removing space debris having a relatively low ballistic coefficient by hastening orbital decay of the debris. A transient gaseous cloud is created at an altitude of at least 100 km above Earth. The cloud has a density sufficient to slow the debris so the debris falls into Earth's atmosphere.
