摘要: Techniques for fabricating organic light emitting devices, and devices fabricating using the disclosed techniques, are provided. In the disclosed techniques, a layer including an emissive material and a buffer material may be deposited in a single laser transfer process, such as a laser-induced thermal imaging process. The emissive and buffer materials may be deposited in discrete layers during the transfer process. Examples of buffer materials as disclosed include blocking materials, transfer materials, and the like. Additional layers may be deposited using conventional techniques or additional laser transfer processes.

摘要: Light emitting devices including sub-pixels having different numbers of emissive layers are provided. At least one sub-pixel of a first color may include a single emissive layer, and at least one sub-pixel of a second color may include multiple emissive layers disposed in a vertical stack. Light emitting devices in which different voltages are applied to each sub-pixel or group of sub-pixels are also provided. In some configurations, the voltage to be applied to a sub-pixel may be selected based upon the number of emissive layers in the sub-pixel.

摘要: OLED devices are disclosed having increased external electroluminescence quantum efficiencies, i.e., increased “out-coupling” efficiencies. OLED devices that have increased out-coupling efficiencies and that are also protected from environmental elements such as moisture and oxygen are also disclosed. The OLED device of the present invention comprises a substrate; an active region positioned on the substrate, wherein the active region comprises an anode layer, a cathode layer and a light-emitting layer disposed between the anode layer and the cathode layer; and a polymeric layer disposed (a) over the active region, (b) under the active region or (c) both over and under the active region. The polymeric layer has microparticles incorporated therein, and the microparticles are effective to increase the out-coupling efficiency of the OLED. In one embodiment, the OLED device comprises a composite barrier layer and the microparticles are incorporated in a polymeric planarizing sublayer of the composite barrier layer. The composite barrier layer in this embodiment also protects the OLED from damage caused by environmental elements such as moisture and/or oxygen.

摘要: An organic electronic device structure and a method of making the same. According to a first aspect of the invention, an organic electronic device structure is provided, which comprises: (a) a substrate layer; (b) an organic electronic region disposed over the substrate layer; (c) an adhesive layer disposed over the organic electronic device; and (d) a barrier layer disposed over the adhesive layer. According to a second aspect of the present invention, an organic electronic device structure is provided, which comprises: (a) a substrate layer; (b) an organic electronic region disposed over the substrate layer; (c) a barrier layer disposed over the organic electronic region; (d) an adhesive layer disposed over the substrate layer and over the barrier layer; and (e) an additional layer disposed over the adhesive layer. According to yet another aspect of the invention, a method for providing an organic electronic device structure of provided. The method comprises: (1) providing a first region comprising (a) a substrate layer and (b) an organic electronic region provided over the substrate layer; (2) providing a second region comprising at least one additional layer; and (3) adhering the first region to the second region using a pressure sensitive adhesive layer. In many preferred embodiments, the organic electronic device region is an OLED region.

摘要: Organic light emitting devices are provided having multiple subpixels. An organic spacer layer is provided in at least one subpixel to protect the emissive layer of the at least one subpixel from overspray due to the deposition of a different emissive layer in a nearby subpixel. More generally, a first device is provided, where the first device comprises a multicolor organic light emitting device. The first device may be the multicolor organic device itself. Or, the first device may be a larger device, such as a consumer device, that includes one or many of the multicolor organic devices. The multicolor organic light emitting, device further comprises multiple subpixels. In the most general case, there are at least a first subpixel and a second subpixel.

摘要: The present invention is directed to novel structures for use in connection with OLED devices that simulaneously act as a multiplayer mirror and as a barrier to harmful species in the exterior environment. According to one embodiment of the invention, an OLED structure includes (a) a substrate; (b) an OLED over the substrate that includes (i) a first electrode, (ii) an emission region above the first electrode and (iii) a second electrode above the emission region, wherein the OLED emits light having a range of wavelengths upon being turned on; and (c) a multiplayer mirror over the substrate, the multiplayer mirror including an alternating series of (i) planarizing layers having a first refractive index and (ii) high-density layers having a second refractive index that differs from the first refractive index. The thicknesses of the planarizing layers and of the high-density layers in this embodiment are selected such that the multiplayer mirror is tuned to transmit light at a peak wavelength within the range of wavelengths emitted by the OLED. Moreover, the planarizing layers and the high-density layers cooperate to restrict transmission of water and oxygen.
