An antimony-containing tin oxide wherein the content of antimony is 0.1 to 20% by weight is almost white and excels in electric conductivity. By mixing a powder of this antimony-containing tin oxide of a particle size of 0.4 .mu.m or less with a binder resin in a specific ratio, an antistatic coating composition can be obtained. By applying this coating on nonconductive base materials such as electronic/electrical parts and building members, an antistatic effect can be imparted to these base materials without impairing their color tones.

This invention relates to a process for preparing a titanium oxide powder comprising heating titanium dioxide powder in an atmosphere of ammonia gas at a temperature of about 500.degree. C. to about 950.degree. C. The product powder is very fine, highly uniform in particle size and useful as an electrically conductive material. The powder is colored blue to black depending upon the process conditions and therefore is useful as a pigment, too.

By pouring a solution containing hydrolyzable tin and antimony salts into an aqueous dispersion of titanium oxide particles and mixing, the salts are caused to hydrolyze, whereby a uniform and strongly adherent coating layer of antimony-containing tin oxide is formed on the surface of each particle of the titanium oxide. The coated powder thus obtained is non-hygroscopic and non-toxic and exhibits stable electroconductivity. Furthermore, since it can possess excellent whiteness, it is suitable for forming the electroconductive layers of electro-thermosensitive papers and electrostatic recording papers, for use as the antistatic agent of resins, and for other uses.

A ferrite for magnetostrictrive vibrators is produced by the simple process of press forming a preformed structure formed from starting powder of magnetite or a mixture of magnetite and ferric oxide, said powder having an average particle size d (.mu.) of from 0.02 to 5.0 .mu., sintering this structure in an atmosphere wherein the partial pressure of oxygen is from 10.sup.-1 to 10.sup.-11 atmosphere at a temperature of from 1,000.degree. to 1,350.degree.
