摘要: A filter bed comprises four filter media of different specific gravities and sizes. The media are intermixed in such a manner that the number of particles continually increases in the direction of fluid flow through the bed. The media comprise coal of two different size ranges and specific gravities, plus silica sand and garnet.

摘要: An apparatus and method for the redistribution of liquid wastes discharged from a distribution means over a biological filter for the treatment of the wastes, particularly a filter comprised primarily of vertical surfaces, is disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of layers of horizontally disposed surfaces positioned between the distribution nozzles and the filter media, which surfaces intercept, retard and evenly distribute the liquid wastes prior to their flow down through the filter media. A mazelike flow channel construction is also disclosed to reduce surges in the flow rate caused by periodic impulses or discharges of liquid wastes, as is commonly encountered in rotary arm distribution apparatus.

摘要: A device for liquid treatment, such as for separating settleable particles from liquid, comprises a set of spaced apart generally parallel inclined perforated sheets forming settling compartments therebetween. Means are provided to distribute an influent liquid so as to impinge substantially uniformly on the first of said sheets and thereafter flow through the perforations therein from the first of such settling compartments uniformly and sequentially to the last thereof. Withdrawal means for the effluent are positioned adjacent the top of the last settling compartment, whereby the liquid flows upwardly through the compartments as it passes sequentially from the first to the last. The particles in the liquid settle out on the sheets whence they slide downwardly therealong to the bottoms thereof into sludge collecting and withdrawing means positioned therebelow.

摘要: 1,247,728. Settling chambers. NEPTUNE MICROFLOG Inc. 12 Nov., 1968, No. 53449/68. Heading C1C. [Also in Division B1] A waste product flows continuously into a tank 36, where it is aerated, and out in streamline flow through tubes 42 inclined at between 45 and 75 degrees to the horizontal so that solids settle in the tubes and slide down them back into the tank while clarified liquid passes through them and is discharged at 44. As described, the waste product is, e.g. sewage sludge pretreated in a percolation filter 32. In tank 36 it may be subjected to aeration by means 38 and agitation by means 40; a coagulation aid such as activated silica, an organic polyelectrolyte, or a polyacrylamide, may be added. Preferred dimensions and flow rates are given. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the liquid enters the tank through an inverted funnel (62) terminating near the tank base and thus providing an upflow clarifier; in another (Fig. 3, not shown) the tube-battery arrangement is kept for emergency use only to treat abnormal flow caused by storms.

摘要: A device for liquid treatment, such as for separating settleable particles from liquid, comprises a first set of spaced apart generally parallel, perforated vertical sheets forming vertical channels therebetween and a second set of spaced apart inclined imperforate sheets disposed beneath the first set. A horizontal flow of liquid perpendicular to the sheets of the first set and through the perforations therein causes settleable particles of material in the liquid to settle out and slide down the inclined imperforate sheets in the second set to withdrawing means positioned therebelow.

摘要: SETTLING TUBE MODULES ARE CLEANED OF DEPOSITED MATERIAL BY RECIPROCATING THE MODULE WHILE IMMERSED IN THE LIQUID OF THE SETTLING BASIN TO CAUSE RELATIVELY RAPID MOTION OF THE LIQUID THROUGH THE INDIVIDUAL SETTLING TUBES THEREOF. GOOD CLEANING IS ACHIEVED WHENB THE EDGE OF THE MODULE IS RECIPROCATED THROUGH AN AMPLITUDE OF ABOUT TWO INCHES AND THE VELOCITY OF THE MODULE IN THE LIQUID DURING THE RECIPROACTION ATTAINS A VALUE OF AT LEAST TWO INCHES PER SECOND.

摘要: SETTLING TUBE MODULES ARE CLEANED OF DEPOSITED MATERIAL BY INJECTING AIR BELOW THEM WHILE THEY ARE IMMERSED IN THE LIQUID OF THE SETTLING BASIN. THE AIR FLOWS UPWARDLY THROUGH THE MODULES CAUSING DISPLACEMENT OF LIQUID FROM AND TURBULENCE IN THE INDIVIDUAL TUBES THEREOF, THE SETTLING
SURFACES BEING SCRUBBED CLEAN BY THE HIGH LIQUID VELOCITIES ACHIEVED.
