A distinguishing factor associated with a given data stream may be determined and used as a basis for selecting a QoS policy setting for the given data stream. The selected QoS policy setting may then be signaled to a media access control layer to take advantage of the QoS function of the embedded underlying active media type that is active and optimal (both from technical and business perspective) to carry out the communication for the application.

    摘要: Described is a method for entry of information into a directory accessible to a caller telecommunications device. Information associated with a called telecommunications device is transmitted from the called telecommunications device over an auxiliary communication channel to a caller telecommunications device. The information is sent in response to an initiation of a communication, such as a voice communication, between the devices over a primary communication channel. An inquiry is presented to a user of the caller telecommunications device to determine if the received information is to be stored. If the user responds affirmatively, the information is stored in a directory in the caller telecommunications device or in a directory on a remote server accessible to the caller telecommunications device. In other embodiments one or more additional auxiliary communications channels are used to transmit or retrieve the information.

    摘要: A service edge node for a multi-service access (MSA) network is provided. The service edge node includes a line card, numerous service cards, a control system, and switching fabric. The line card receives packets from an access network and removes framing information from the packets to provide raw packets. For each of the packets, the raw packet from the line card is directed to one of the service cards. In one embodiment, each of the service cards is dedicated to a particular logical channel, and the line card is configured to direct the packets based on the logical channels. In another embodiment, each of the service cards is dedicated to a particular traffic type, and the line card directs the raw packets to the service cards based on a preconfigured table from the control system defining the traffic type of each of the service cards.

    摘要: The present invention generally relates to the acceleration of customer premises equipment based virtual private networks (CPE-VPN). To provide virtual private network service from an enterprise network to a mobile client in a secure manner apparatus and method are provided whereby VPN service is provided which allows the wireless network to use data acceleration techniques. This is accomplished by providing a VPN acceleration server that terminates VPN tunnel from the enterprise network, accelerates the data for wireless transmission then encrypts the data for transmission to the mobile client (VPN acceleration client) over an encrypted acceleration tunnel. The encrypted acceleration tunnel may use PKI encryption.

    摘要: Systems and methods for integrating telephony and multimedia content include concurrently displaying a graphical user interface and a video channel of a media broadcast on a screen of a multimedia device. The graphical user interface has a graphical element by which an end-user of the multimedia device can select execution of an interactive application that invokes a telephony service. In response to a selection of the interactive application by the end-user, a message is sent to a networked resource requesting the telephony service. The requested telephony service can be to ignore, reject, or forward the incoming telephone call. Alternatively, the requested telephony service can be a click-to-call. Other interactive applications can request access to an address book, acquire presence information, or request an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed.
