    摘要: A foundry moulding composition comprising(a) a granular refractory material,(b) from 0.25 to 2.5% based on the weight of the refractory material of an aqueous solution of a potassium alkali phenol-formaldehyde resin, said aqueous solution having a solids content of from 50 to 75% and said resin having a weight average molecular weight (M.sub.wr) of from 700 to 2000, a formaldehyde:phenol molar ratio of from 1.2:1 to 2.6:1 and a potassium hydroxide:phenol molar ratio of from 0.5:1 to 1.2:1;(c) from 0.05 to 3% based on the weight of said aqueous solution, of at least one silane, and(d) from 20 to 110% based on the weight of said aqueous solution of at least one ester active to catalyze curing of said resin.

    摘要: A method for the manufacture of shaped frictional elements is provided. The method comprises mixing a first portion of a frictional filler with from 5% to 30% of certain liquid, alkaline, phenol-formaldehyde resins; mixing a second portion of the same or a different frictional filler with a liquid ester curing catalyst for the phenyl-formaldehyde resin; intimately mixing the first and second portions; and allowing the resultant mixture to cure in a mould. A composition comprising a frictional filler, the above resin, and a curing catalyst is also provided. The disclosed method is quick and economical and is carried out at room temperature without the hazards and inconveniences associated with heated moulds.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a phenolic resin composition suitable for use in bonding refractory materials, such as sand, in the production of foundry moulds and cores and also in treating subterranean formations. The phenolic resin composition comprises an esterified phenolic compound, a phenolic novolak resin and a base, which will react to provide final cure in the presence of water or other polar solvent. The composition, once reacted, will bond granular refractory materials. The esterified phenolic compound contains at least one esterified methylol group positioned ortho or para to a phenolic hydroxyl group or an esterified phenolic hydroxyl group. Included within the invention are anhydrous precursors to the reactive phenolic resin composition and also foundry moulding compositions which incorporate the reactive phenolic resin compositions. Other embodiments of the invention include methods for making foundry moulds and cores and methods for curing the reactive phenolic resin composition.

    摘要: The invention relates to foundary moulding compositions useful for producing moulds for the manufacture of metal castings wherein the moulds are capable of giving castings with good surface finish without the need for conventional separate blacking applications. A foundary moulding composition of the invention comprises refractory material such as sand, alkali phenol-formaldehyde resole resin solution, carbonifiable material such as styrenated phenol, and an effective amount of an organic ester for hardening the composition. In another embodiment, the invention is a binder composition comprising alkali phenol-formaldehyde resole resin solution and carbonifiable material capable of being hardened by reaction with organic ester. In another embodiment, the invention is a curing additive for a foundry binder comprising carbonifiable material and liquid ester such as gamma-butyrolactone, and the like. In another embodiment, the invention is a method of making a foundry mould wherein a mixture of sand, resin and carbonifiable material is shaped, and then hardened with a gaseous ester such as methyl formate.
