摘要： The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for playback of programs and other works recorded on random access storage media. One embodiment of the invention relates to random access storage media such as a DVD (“digital versatile disk” or “digital video disk”) used to distribute motion pictures and other audio/video programs or works. The invention involves a manner of utilizing secondary storage space of the storage media not used by the primary program being distributed to store secondary programs such as movie trailers and product advertisements, and to present the secondary programs to the user in a topical and interesting manner. In one embodiment, storage space of a random access storage medium such as a DVD is allocated to a number of variously sized programs or program portions called “chapters.” In one embodiment, each primary and secondary program constitutes a separate chapter. In this embodiment, each time the primary chapter is played, the DVD playback device plays a limited selection of secondary chapters before and/or after the primary chapter. In one embodiment, the sequence of secondary chapters played back varies each time the DVD is played. In this manner, as a viewer repeatedly views the DVD over time, a large variety of promotional material can be presented to the viewer without overburdening the viewer with overly-long sequences of promotions and trailers. In addition, because the sequence of trailers changes each time the DVD is viewed viewer interest is maintained.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus for linking real-time data with audiovisual content to enable a user to make selections, manipulate data, and to execute functions interactively through an audiovisual display unit based upon audiovisual content being displayed at the time. Audiovisual content is synchronized with the available interactive functions so that the user has the ability to interact with and perform functions related to the audiovisual content being shown at the time. In a preferred embodiment, actionable events in audiovisual programs are synchronized with associated overlay functions and interface data. A method is provided to make overlay functions available to the user through an audiovisual display during the actionable events that occur in a program being viewed by the user. A user interface for each overlay function that may be performed, which user interface may or may not be visible to the user, is overlaid on and synchronized with the program being shown. Interaction with selections may be made using any of several known methods such as a screen menu or a cursor controlled by a remote control device.

摘要： An aircraft guidance light fixture housing for aircraft runways and taxiways includes a generally cylindrical rotationally molded plastic canister or housing member having an intermediate cylindrical wall section which is of an outer diameter slightly less than the inner diameter of the remaining wall sections of said housing member whereby the housing member may be cut in predetermined spaced apart positions to remove a portion of the housing member and permit telescoping one of the remaining sections into the other remaining section. The overall height of the housing member and the rotational position of one housing section relative to the other may be determined by the cutting and reassembly process. A support ring is mounted on the housing member and includes a peripheral flange of a diameter greater than the housing member so that aircraft loads on the light fixture may be transmitted directly to the runway structure and not through the housing. The housing assembly is installed in a runway structure by predetermining the overall height of the housing, cutting the housing member to provide the predetermined height of the housing assembly, installing the housing with one section rotationally positioned relative to the other in a predetermined position and encapsulating the housing and the support ring by adding runway structure material to secure the housing in a predetermined position.

摘要： An improved runway lighting system comprises a first set of runway lights providing illumination in one direction along the runway, a second set of runway lights providing illumination in the opposite direction along the runway and a switching unit for switching on either the first set of lights or the second set of lights, depending on the direction of approach of incoming aircraft. A control unit provides current pulses along existing runway circuitry to operate the switching unit. Circuitry in the switching unit determines which set of lights to illuminate based upon the amplitude and duration of the current pulse. A selector switch may also be provided in the control tower to remotely operate the control unit.
