    摘要: An apparatus and method for forming contoured work pieces from a flat sheet metal stock includes a die block having a cavity into a planar surface of the die block, and a pressure chamber, the die block and pressure chamber relatively reciprocable to clamp the flat sheet metal stock. The pressure chamber is flow connected to a hydraulic cylinder via a spring loaded ball valve. A reciprocating plunger rod is connected to a hydraulic actuator and positioned to be thrust into the volume of the hydraulic cylinder to increase the pressure within the hydraulic cylinder which in turn opens the ball valve, and by hydraulic pressure, deforms the flat workpiece into the die cavity. An apparatus is described which can include three operational stations, a first station for a punch deformation of the flat workpiece to effectively stretch the workpiece within an area, a hydraulic forming operation for using hydraulic pressure to deform the flat workpiece into a die cavity, and finally a punch cutting station for separating the thus formed workpiece from the otherwise flat sheet metal. The three operational stations are activated by a single stroke of a hydraulic cylinder and the metal sheet is indexed continuously through the three stations.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for hydraulically forming metallic tubular bodies are disclosed. A forming die is provided, with the interior of the die configured to receive the tubular body to be shaped. The tubular body is filled with liquid, preferably water, with the interior of the tubular body then sealed. A forming plunger is thereafter inserted into the tubular body whereby localized hydraulic pressurization of the liquid within the body is effected. Outward deformation of the body toward the interior of the forming die thus results, with the formation of tapers, steps, projections, or other desired features readily achieved. The present invention is particularly suited for forming the tubular components of musical instruments.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for trimming a reed used in conjunction with a musical instrument includes a support structure and at least one cutting instrument that can be manually coupled to and removed from the support structure. When the cutting instrument is positioned in the support structure, the reed is inserted between a die portion and a punching portion of the cutting instrument. A force applied to a lever mechanism coupled to the support member forces the punching member in to the plane of the die portion thereby trimming the edge of the reed. In addition to the convenient interchangeability of the cutting instruments permitting a plurality of reed sizes to be trimmed, the support structure can be fabricated from a single sheet of material. The number of parts needed for the apparatus is further reduced by having the lever mechanism comprised of two identical parts.
