In some aspects, the system includes a plurality of forming modules movably mounted relative to an infeed mechanism. The infeed mechanism is configured to supply pre-form articles to the plurality of forming modules, and each of the plurality of forming modules includes a multi-segment mold disposed about an electromagnetic coil. The electromagnetic coil is configured to impart an electromagnetic force on the pre-form articles when supplied with electrical energy that urges the pre-form articles into contact with the multi-segment mold to produce the formed containers.

The process can make a hollow member with a complicated cross-section formed under a low pressure, and solves a technical bottleneck relating to a conventional process for forming this kind of members that is subject to an ultrahigh pressure generator.

One or more docking punches may secure the workpiece within the mold and serve to introduce a pressurized fluid into the hollow region of the workpiece within the mold. The workpiece may be hot-formed in this process. The present disclosure concerns a variety of methods and devices that may be utilized to counteract a cooling of the workpiece in a region of the docking punch and reduce a temperature difference that may exist between the workpiece and the device.

A guide pin assembly for metal forming dies includes a cylindrical guide pin body with a tapered guide pin head to guide associated die members from converging and diverging positions. A base is used to secure the guide pin assembly to one of the die members in a reciprocating die. The base includes a tapered surface that coincides with the tapered surface of the guide pin head to transfer the directional force, caused by the diverging die members, on the guide pin assembly to other die components. The guide pin assembly includes additional dampening components between the guide pin assembly and the base to dampen the impact caused by the diverging die members.
