摘要: A medical electrode assembly includes a conductive electrode, an electrically insulative backing layer on one side of the electrode, an electrically conductive coupling agent in contact with another side of the electrode, an attachment mechanism rigidly connected to a center portion of the electrode, and an electrical conductor connected to the attachment mechanism. The combination of the electrode with the attachment mechanism is constructed with substantial circumferential uniformity such that electrical current provided to the center portion of the electrode through the low-profile attachment mechanism is distributed radially through the electrode in a substantially circumferentially uniform distribution. The electrode is constructed to perform defibrillation or cardioversion. The attachment mechanism is substantially flat and has a low profile. The electrical conductor has a substantially flat, strap-like configuration. A layer of material, which is co-extensive with substantially the entire area of the conductive electrode, causes the insulative backing layer to form a dome while the electrode assembly adheres to a patient's body. In certain embodiments a container surrounds the electrode and the electrically conductive coupling agent. A peel-off layer sealably engages the container through a sealing mechanism. In certain embodiments an electrically conductive sacrificial element is electrically connected with the electrode. The electrically conductive coupling agent contacts the electrode and the sacrificial element, so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the sacrificial element corrodes and the electrode is protected from corrosion.

摘要: A snap acting thermostatic disc assembly having a thermostatic disc element (20) responsive both to current and to ambient temperature is provided with an electrical contact (22) on a face surface on the disc element at one end thereof and a weld slug (24) at an opposite end of the disc element and has a fulcrum member (28, 28', 28") on the opposite face surface of the disc element in alignment with the weld slug. The fulcrum member is arranged to move the bending location of the disc element member away from the heat affected zone of the thermostatic metal caused by welding. In a second embodiment the snap acting disc element is used as an ambient temperature responsive control member.

摘要: A movable condition-responsive member such as a snap-acting dished metal member is mounted in a condition-responsive device to move between spaced dispositions such as between the original and inverted dished configurations of a dished metal member in response to occurrence of selected pressure, force or temperature conditions. The member is arranged to engage and move the device control elements during such movement to perform control functions. A series of artifacts such as laser-melted portions of the metal materials embodied in the member are provided in the surface of the member, typically after the member is assembled in the control device. Each artifact establishes a local pattern of stresses in the member at variance with a pattern of stresses in the member adjacent to the artifacts, and the artifacts cooperate to precisely determine the condition which results in the snap-acting member movement. The member is intially formed and processed in conventional manner to provide the member with intended initial condition-response properties differing by selected value from the properties ultimately to be established in the member, and is tested to display its actual properties as initially formed. The artifacts are each proportioned to modify the condition-response properties by only a small increment of said value and they are formed in sequence, typically after member assembly in the device, as the response of the device is tested to precisely determine the condition-response properties of the member in the device.

摘要: A snap acting control member (10, 10b) having high actuating temperatures comprises metal layers metallurgically bonded together with a low expansion (12) and a relatively high expansion layer (14) each having similar moduli of elasticity and the low expansion layer being formed of a precipitation hardenable stainless steel so that after forming into a dished shaped configuration to make the member snap acting the low expansion layer is heat treated to increase the strength. The control member can be used solely to sense temperature or it can be used as an electrical current carrying member. When used in the latter manner, the electrical resistivity of the member can be adjusted by interposing a selected layer (16) between layers (12) and (14) to thereby increase or decrease the resistivity of the member (10b) depending on the particular metal chosen for the interlayer. An electrical switch (24) is shown in which a snap acting member is used as a sensor and another electrical switch (48) is shown in which the snap acting member is a current carrying member.

摘要: A medical electrode assembly includes an electrically conductive electrode, an electrically conductive sacrificial element, and a layer of electrically conductive gel. The electrode has an electrical terminal to connect with external electrical circuitry. The sacrificial element is electrically connected with the electrode through an impedance element or a power supply. The layer of electrically conductive gel contacts both the electrode and the sacrificial element so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the sacrificial element functions as a sacrificial anode that corrodes and the electrode functions as a cathode that is protected from corrosion.
