Abstract: Pulmonary treatment methods and systems. During pulmonary treatment breath cycles, a hold period of elevated inspiration pressure may promote lung region filling (and potentially recruitment) via collateral airways. Expectoration is promoted by dropping from the inspiration pressure to an undershoot pressure; de-recruitment (e.g., by airway collapse) is mitigated by raising the undershoot pressure to a positive expiratory pressure (PEP) during expiration phase. Breath cycles with a period of post-PEP suction may also be administered. Respiratory therapy systems may be programmed or re-programmed to administer this pressure protocol. In some embodiments, a system includes a hand-held unit including a patient mouthpiece, a base unit which provides pressurized gas to the mouthpiece, an electronically controllable valve in the hand-held unit for providing therapy maneuvers such as PEP (Positive Expiratory Pressure) through the mouthpiece, and a computing unit which instructs the hand-held unit to perform therapy maneuvers.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including a valve frame defining a frame aperture and at least one arm attached to a portion of the valve frame on a ventricular side of said frame aperture. The at least one arm is configured to extend radially from the portion of the valve frame such that a chord receiving surface of the arm is sized and shaped to deploy among a region of the chords of the native mitral valve. The arm is curved, with an interior of the arm facing a direction in which the valve frame is configured to be rotated during deployment of the prosthetic mitral valve apparatus within the native mitral valve and with the arm having a concavely rounded leading edge facing at least partially in a circumferential direction. Other applications are also described.

Abstract: There is provided a computer implemented method of automatic segmentation of three dimensional (3D) anatomical region of interest(s) (ROI) that includes predefined anatomical structure(s) of a target individual, comprising: receiving 3D images of a target individual, each including the predefined anatomical structure(s), each 3D image is based on a different respective imaging modality. In one implementation, each respective 3D image is inputted into a respective processing component of a multi-modal neural network, wherein each processing component independently computes a respective intermediate, and the intermediate outputs are inputted into a common last convolutional layer(s) for computing the indication of segmented 3D ROI(s). In another implementation, each respective 3D image is inputted into a respective encoding-contracting component a multi-modal neural network, wherein each encoding-contracting component independently computes a respective intermediate output. The intermediate outputs are inputted into a single common decoding-expanding component for computing the indication of segmented 3D ROI(s).

Abstract: assembly configured for removably interconnecting between the hand-held probe device and the rotating motor device. The hand-held probe device is disposable and comprises a housing having proximal and distal ends, a rotatable cutting tool extending distally from the distal end of the housing and being configured for cutting and removing tissue during rotation, and a transmission assembly passing inside the housing between the proximal and distal ends and being configured for transmitting rotational power to the rotatable cutting tool. The connection assembly is configured for engaging between the rotating motor device and the transmission assembly to thereby controllably rotate the cutting tool and remove tissue. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes a control unit for controlling operation of the apparatus, the control unit comprises an activation mechanism for activating the rotatable cutting tool, and a controller configured for operating the activation mechanism to generate a single fixed activation signal of a known intensity and duration during a predetermined time interval, thereby restricting operation of the cutting tool during the time interval to the single activation signal only.

Abstract: A method for influencing cerebral perfusion in a patient by modifying a volume of a volume adaptor introduced into a cerebral ventricle of the patient, the method comprising identifying a timing of a cerebral blood inflow and/or outflow in a cardiac activity of the patient, modifying a volume of the volume adaptor in synchronization to the identified timing of the cerebral blood flow, to an amount sufficient to modify an intracranial pressure in the cerebral ventricle, such that a flow of the cerebral blood flow is enhanced. In some exemplary embodiments of the invention, the inflation duration of the volume adapter is short relative to the cardiac cycle.

Abstract: Medical devices and methods for removing a predetermined portion of soft tissue from a target tissue layer, thereby creating a channel between two side walls of the target tissue layer, are described. Abstract: A spectral imaging device includes an imager, a scanning stage to establish relative motion between the imager and a sample in a scanning direction and an optical system controlling a light characteristic of a light beam constituting an image of the sample to the imager. The optical system includes a light varying element to receive the light beam and provide an output light beam with spatially varying light characteristic over a cross-section thereof. A set of redirecting optical elements direct light rays from the sample to form the light beam, and to focus the output light beam onto the imager. A controller controls the scanning stage and the imager to capture a plurality of image frames with an overlap including a defined shift that is greater than 1 pixel along the scanning direction between consecutive image frames. A computing device consolidates image data to provide an image of the sample.
