Abstract:
Method and apparatus for forming an improved missile warhead comprising a cap section, a center section, and a mounting section, the three sections forming a tubular body closed by the cap section at one end thereof, with a plurality of cavities formed on the inner circumference of the center section. In formation of the cavity-bearing missile body, a missile body preform is isostatically formed from powder material along with low-density inclusions, the latter being removed during later processing to form an array of cavities, relying upon differential material densification for release of the inclusions from the pressed preform.
Abstract:
A method of screening a subject for increased likelihood of having a favorable response to estrogen replacement therapy comprises detecting the presence of the rare form of at least one estrogen receptor alpha polymorphism in the subject, the presence of the estrogen receptor alpha polymorphism indicating the subject is more likely to have a favorable response to estrogen replacement therapy (e.g., with respect to cardiovascular health, heart disease, and/or HDL levels).
Abstract:
Method and apparatus whereby complex patterns are pressed into the interior of a part formed of compactible material. A flexible, pre-fabricated pattern form bearing the inverse of a desired pattern is wrapped around a conventional mandrel and this assembly is loaded inside of an isostatic pressing bag with a material charge. After compaction, the mandrel is separated from the pattern form, leaving the pattern form behind in the compact. The pattern form is then peeled, pulled, or otherwise removed from the interior of the compact, leaving behind the desired on the compact interior. Alternatively, a collapsible or melt-away mandrel with the inverse of a desired pattern formed on its exterior is employed to form the desired pattern on the interior of a compacted part.
Abstract:
Improved missile warhead body has three sections forming a tubular body closed by a cap section at one end thereof and having a center section comprising high density material inclusions of a selected size and weight which separate from the warhead when detonated and form shrapnel on the order of the size and weight of the high density material inclusions.
Abstract:
A new method and apparatus for providing a stable, temporally controllable high current density electron beam from a photocathode has been developed. A low level of cesium and, possibly a stabilizing gas, is supplied to the photoemitting surface while the electron beam is being generated, thereby replenishing cesium and possibly other ions lost from the emitting surface on a continual basis.
