    摘要: The invention relates to a radiation-curable coating, ink or matrix composition comprising: (A) a polyester (meth)acrylate oligomer comprising more than about 1 mole of diacid, (B) optionally, a reactive diluent, and (C) optionally, a photoinitiator, wherein the composition when cured and aged at 85° C. and 85 % Relative Humidity for 10 days is hydrolytically stable to such an extent that the coating, ink or matrix maintains mechanical integrity. The invention further relates to said compositions for use as a primary coating composition, which, after cure, has a modulus of less than about 5 MPa, for use as a secondary coating or ink composition and for use as a matrix material, which, after cure, has a modulus of at least about 5 MPa. The invention also relates to a coated and optionally inked optical fiber and to an optical fiber ribbon comprising a coating, ink or matrix material as described above.

    摘要: Provided is a radiation-curable, glass optical fiber coating composition which when suitably cured exhibits resistance to attack from hydrocarbon gel cable filing material. The composition contains about 10 to about 90% by weight of a first radiation-curable oligomer; from 0 to about 40% by weight of a reactive diluent; from 0 to about 40% by weight of a photoinitiator; from 0 to about 10% by weight of a pigment; and about 10 to about 90% by weight of a second radiation-curable oligomer according to the following formula: R1-L1-C1-L2-R2  (1) where: R1 and R2, independently, each represent a radiation-curable functional group; L1 and L2, independently, each represent an an alkyleneoxy chain having from about 2 to about 40 carbon atoms, wherein L1 and L2 are linked to C1 through an oxygen atom C1 comprises a hydrocarbon having from about 5 to about 40 carbon atoms and containing at least one cyclic group.

    摘要: A liquid photocurable plastic composition is disclosed which comprises:(a) from 14% to 70% by weight of a polyurethane (meth)acrylate having a polyoxyalkylene structure in the backbone of the polyurethane, said polyurethane (meth)acrylate containing 0.8 to 8 weight percent of ethylenic unsaturation, from 50% to 98% by weight of the polyoxyalkylene structure, and having a number average molecular weight of 1,000 to 7,000;(b) from 5% to 40% by weight of a polyurethane (meth)acrylate having at least 15% by weight of a tricyclodecane structure in the backbone of the polyurethane and a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 1,000;(c) a reactive diluent; and(d) a polymerization initiator. This combination provides a liquid curable plastic composition suitable as the secondary coating or bundling material for use with optical fibers to provide compositions which photocure rapidly to provide cured coatings which are relatively hard and elongatable and which can be applied at low viscosity without encountering excessive sensitivity to water.

    摘要: Optical glass fiber having its glass surface adherently coated with an ultraviolet-cured coating of a liquid ultraviolet-curable coating composition is disclosed in which the composition comprises an ultraviolet-curable polymeric polyacrylate, a photoinitiator to render the composition curable with ultraviolet light, and from about 0.5% to about 5% of the coating composition of a polyalkoxy silane containing an organic substituent carrying a single mercaptyl hydrogen atom capable of reacting with acrylate unsaturation by Michael adduction. These compositions provide improved adhesion to the glass surface of the optical fiber which is well retained after exposure to high humidity atmospheres.

    摘要: An ultraviolet curing liquid coating composition is disclosed which, when cured with ultraviolet light in the presence of an appropriate photoinitiator, provides buffer coatings for optical glass fiber having adequate strength at room or expected elevated temperature and stability at such elevated temperature, a high index of refraction above 1.48, and a low tensile modulus which remains low to resist microbending difficulties down to around -60.degree. C. This coating composition consists essentially of a linear polyacrylate-terminated polyurethane or polyurea oligomer having a room temperature tensile modulus of at least 100 psi., and a tensile modulus at -60.degree. C. which is less than 175,000 psi., when capped with 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and cured with ultraviolet light, in admixture with a liquid acrylate-functional material which does not increase the low temperature hardness and which provides the liquidity needed for coating application. The oligomer is instead capped with a monohydric polyacrylate to provide improved cure speed without eliminating resistance to low temperature microbending.
