Abstract:
The invention relates to a protective cover sheet comprising a low birefringence protective polymer film and a layer containing a water-soluble polymer and polymer particles that promotes adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol). The cover sheet has excellent adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing dichroic polarizing films and eliminates the need to alkali treat the cover sheet prior to lamination to the dichroic films, thereby simplifying the process to manufacture polarizing plates.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of making a polarizing plate comprising providing a polarizing film; coating the polarizing film with at least two coating solutions using a multilayer coating method; and drying the coating solutions to form an optical film or an optical film stack.
Abstract:
Polymer films comprising plasticizer compounds represented by Structure 1 as described in the specification are useful as protective films in polarizing plates for display applications. Methods of manufacturing such polymer films and polarizing plates are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention generally relates to polymer films used as protective cover sheets for polarizer plates, a method for producing polarizing plates, and a Liquid Crystal Display employing the same. More particularly, the invention relates to a cover sheet composite having a removable, carrier substrate and a cover sheet comprising a low birefringence polymer film and a layer that promotes adhesion to polyvinyl alcohol on the same side of the carrier substrate as the low birefringence polymer film. The guarded cover sheet of the invention is less susceptible to defects due to dirt and abrasion during the manufacture of the cover sheet and polarizer plates. In addition, the cover sheet has excellent adhesion to polyvinyl alcohol-containing dichroic films and eliminates the need to alkali treat the cover sheet prior to lamination to the dichroic films.
Abstract:
The invention provides an optical film comprising a transparent support with an antireflection layer substantially conformed in shape to the surface underlying the layer, the antireflection layer containing a binder polymer having dispersed polymer particles which are nanovoided so as to have a surface area greater than 50 m2/gm and which fill 64% or less of the layer volume. The film provides improved anti-reflection without the expected increase in transmission haze.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for forming an integral protective layer on a polarizing layer comprising coating the layer with a sol, gelling the sol, and then curing the coating to form a contiguous crosslinked adherent protective layer

The invention relates to a protective cover sheet comprising a low birefringence protective polymer film and a layer that promotes adhesion to poly(vinyl alcohol), the protective cover sheet comprising at least one functional layer containing a UV-absorbing polymer.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a polymeric film includes adsorbing an ammonium salt surfactant over a plurality of polymer beads. The method also includes adding the polymer beads to a polymer solution, wherein the ammonium salt surfactant substantially prevents flocculation of the polymer beads. Additionally, a polymeric film includes a plurality of polymer beads each having an outer surface. The polymeric film also includes an ammonium salt surfactant disposed over each of the outer surfaces, wherein the ammonium salt surfactant substantially prevents flocculation of the polymer beads.

The invention generally relates to polymer films used as protective cover sheets for polarizer plates, a method for producing polarizing plates, and a Liquid Crystal Display employing the same. More particularly, the invention relates to cover sheet composites having a removable, carrier substrate and, optionally, a strippable, protection layer that protects the cover sheet from abrasion and dirt during the manufacture of the cover sheet and polarizer plates.
