A color diffusion transfer photographic element comprising (a) a light sensitive component containing at least one light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer associated with a dye releasing redox compound, (b) a dye image receiving component and (c) an alkaline processing composition component, wherein the improvement comprises at least one of said components (a), (b) and (c) containing a diffusible hydroquinone type compound having the half wave potential of polarography in the range of from -300 mV to -380 mV measured using a saturated calomel electrode as a reference electrode in a buffer solution having a pH of 13.0.degree. at 25.degree. C. The diffusible hydroquinone type compound has excellent gradation control properties and is particularly suitable for controlling gradation of the toe part in a photographic characteristic curve of a color diffusion transfer photograph. A compound represented by the structural formula: ##STR1## is representative of the compounds disclosed which are utilized within the silver halide layer of photographic light-sensitive materials. The compounds aid in preventing the fading of dye images which are formed by development of color photographic light-sensitive materials as well as aiding in the prevention of discoloration of non-developed areas. The effects of the compounds are particularly noticeable when utilized in combination with magenta couplers or cyan couplers, and other antifading agents in an amount of 2 to 150% by weight based on the weight of the couplers.

A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material is described comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, said silver halide emulsion layer containing a rhodium salt in an amount sufficient to increase a contrast thereof, and said silver halide emulsion layer or a layer adjacent thereto containing a compound represented by the following formula (I) or (II), and a process for producing a silver halide photographic emulsion containing rhodium salts is also described which comprises adding a rhodium salt into a silver halide photographic emulsion in an amount sufficient to increase a contrast before the conclusion of first ripening and adding a compound represented by the following formula (I) or (II) into the resulting emulsion after washing to remove useless salts ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group.The silver halide photographic light-sensitive material and a silver halide photographic emulsion each is capable of providing high contrast images and stabilized photographic properties; particularly, gradation properties remain stable during storage.

A process for forming photographic images comprising a silver image and a dye image, comprising development processing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing a 4-alkoxy-1-naphthol represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group, or a hydroxyalkyl group, and the number of carbon atoms in the substituent represented by R is from 1 to 4.The process of this invention is particularly useful in the field of X-ray photography, in order to provide an image of increased density for a given silver content. A novel silver halide photographic light-sensitive material includes the above 4-alkoxy-1-naphthol in a photographic colloid layer thereof, preferably the silver halide emulsion layer.
