Abstract: Provided are embodiments of a device, having a device body suitable to hold a syringe. The device body can have an elongated member with a distal support and a proximal support. The device further includes a ratcheting rod configured to fit moveably within an open chamber in the elongated member, where the ratcheting rod has a proximal end configured to connect to a plunger of the syringe. The device can include a lever handle hingedly connected to a distal end of the device body, and a ratcheting lever hingedly connected to a distal end of the lever handle and positioned to interact with the ratcheting rod. Compression of the lever handle forces the ratcheting lever to extend the ratcheting rod in a proximal direction and to extract the plunger of the syringe.

Abstract: A protective vest device that will adequately secure an infant from the ability to self-dislodge medical life-sustaining supply lines or equipment, while also supporting proper body alignment. The protective device mitigates self-dislodgement while allowing for free movement and proper alignment of infant's arms and hands and which are allowed to touch one another, thereby not inhibiting the ability to explore and expand brain development through tactile stimulation and therefore fostering healthy neuronal pathways of the infant. The fostering healthy neuronal pathways is provided by, for example, allowing the hands to touch one another as the infant develops a sense of where it is in space and time as it continues to grow outside of the womb. By maintaining proper body alignment of infant in the device and the configuration of the device, the device supports healthy musculoskeletal development with a stretchy womb like material to mimic the spring back effect of the uterine wall when a fetus pushes against a uterus.

Abstract: The gene responsible for encoding SERT has a functional polymorphism at the 5′-regulatory promoter region, which results in two forms, long (L) and short (S). The LL-genotype is hypothesized to play a key role in the early onset of alcohol use. The present invention discloses the differences in treatment and diagnosis based on the L or short genotypes as well as on a single nucleotide polymorphism of the SERT gene, the 3′ UTR SNP rs1042173. The present invention demonstrates the efficacy of using the drug ondansetron and similar drugs for treatment based on variations in the polymorphisms of the SERT gene as well as methods for diagnosing susceptibility to abuse of alcohol and other addiction-related diseases and disorders.
