    Abstract: In embodiments, a uniaxial optical multi-measurement sensor comprises a sensor housing having a center axis and a cylindrical surface and an array of electrically coupled light-sensitive pixel elements attached to the cylindrical surface. Each pixel element is positioned having its light-sensitive side facing towards the center axis. In this embodiment, a conical light redistribution optic is positioned along the center axis to direct or reimage uncollimated light entering the sensor housing onto the pixel elements. Also, in this embodiment, the pixel elements are positioned relative to the light redistribution optic to measure or image two or more properties of the uncollimated light entering the sensor housing of a single scene and from a single viewpoint.

    Abstract: A counter-swarm firework includes a shell casing, multiple streamers positioned in the shell casing, a burst charge positioned in the shell casing and configured to disperse the multiple streamers from the shell casing when discharged, a pusher plate positioned in the shell casing between the burst charge and the multiple streamers, a fire suppressant layer positioned between the burst charge and the pusher plate, and a kick charge configured to launch the shell casing and its contents prior to discharging the burst charge. The fire suppression layer may be configured to suppress heat generated by the discharge of the burst charge.

    Abstract: Among other things, a reconfigurable antenna array (RAA) includes individual pattern reconfigurable antennas (PRA). Each of the PRAs has (a) an antenna, (b) components controllable to generate and effect any of two or more modes of the PRA, the modes having respectively different steered radiation patterns, and (c) inputs to receive drive signals for the antenna and control signals for the controllable components. Control circuitry has outputs coupled to the inputs of the PRAs to drive the antennas of the PRAs to form an array beam having an array peak in a particular direction and at the same time to deliver control signals for the controllable components to effect a selected mode of each of the PRAs for which the steered radiation pattern has a peak in the particular direction of the array beam and has one or more nulls in the directions of one or more of the side-lobes of the array beam.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for investigating Zika virus (ZIKV) biology and pathogenicity. The present disclosure provides genetically stable viral vectors to produce functional RNA transcripts of ZIKV cDNAs. In particular, the present disclosure provides full-length infectious cDNAs as bacterial artificial chromosomes for spatiotemporally distinct and genetically divergent ZIKVs. The present disclosure also provides methods of generating a genetically engineered attenuated ZIKV using the genetically stable viral vectors described herein.

    Abstract: An apparatus for inductive power transfer (“IPT”) includes an active bridge section with input terminals that receive power from a constant current source, where the active bridge section operates at a fixed switching frequency, a primary resonant capacitor connected in series with an output terminal of the active bridge section, and a primary IPT coil connected in series with the primary resonant capacitor, where power is transferred wirelessly between the primary IPT coil and a secondary IPT coil, and the secondary IPT coil is connected in series with a secondary resonant capacitor, which is connected in series with an output rectifier section that receives power from the secondary IPT coil and comprising output terminals for connection to a load. The apparatus includes a controller that regulates output voltage to the load, where the controller regulates output voltage to the load by controlling switching of the active bridge section.

    Abstract: A power converter apparatus includes a plurality of inverters where each inverter receives power from a separate DC voltage source. The apparatus includes a magnetic structure. The magnetic structure includes a primary winding for each inverter, where each primary winding is connected to an output a corresponding inverter and each primary winding is coupled to a magnetic core, and a single secondary winding coupled to one or more magnetic cores to which each primary winding is coupled. The apparatus includes a rectifier that receives an AC waveform from the secondary winding and that rectifies the AC waveform and is connected to a load at output terminals. The secondary winding includes a secondary bus and the one or more magnetic cores of the magnetic structure that are arranged to provide a pathway for the secondary winding that minimizes a length of the secondary winding.

    Abstract: An apparatus for zero voltage switching includes a ZVS assist circuit connected between a switching node and a negative connection of a converter. The switching node is located between first and second switches of a switching leg of the converter. The converter is fed by a constant current source and feeds a constant current load. The ZVS assist circuit includes a ZVS inductance, a first ZVS switch that allows current through the ZVS inductance to change a voltage of the switching node to a condition for zero voltage switching of the first switch of the switching leg, and a second ZVS switch that allows current through the ZVS inductance to change the voltage of the switching node to a condition for zero voltage switching of the second switch of the switching leg. Current through the first ZVS switch is opposite current through the second ZVS switch.

    Abstract: A three-dimensional magneto-optical trap (3D GMOT) configured to trap a cold-atom cloud is disclosed. The 3D GMOT includes a single input light beam having its direction along a first axis, an area along a second and third axis that are both normal to the first axis, and a substantially flat input light beam intensity profile extending across its area. The 3D GMOT may also include a circular, diffraction-grating surface positioned normal to the first axis and having closely adjacent grooves arranged concentrically around a gap formed in its center. The circular, diffraction-grating surface is configured to diffract first-order light beams that intersect within an intersection region that lies directly above the gap and suppresses reflections and diffractions of all other orders. The 3D GMOT may further include a quadrupole magnetic field with its magnitude being zero within the intersection region.
