摘要: Disclosed are methods for obtaining a natural product preparation with reduced glucosinolate contamination from a plant of Brassicaceae. The methods can include cultivating a plant callus from a plant capable of producing a desired natural product, selecting a callus with reduced glucosinolate production, and cultivating the selected callus in a liquid medium. The method can also include recovering the natural product from the culture. Also disclosed are methods for obtaining cabbage anthocyanin with reduced glucosinolate contamination. The methods can include cultivating a red cabbage plant callus with reduced glucosinolate production in a liquid medium to obtain a suspension culture and cultivating the suspension culture in a medium lacking a nitrogen source. The method can also include recovering the anthocyanin with reduced glucosinolate contamination from the culture. Finally, several specific low-glucosinolate cell lines are described.

摘要: Reported herein are methods for obtaining stably transformed callus in Taxus media ‘Hicksii’, including particularly methods that involve using needles, stem, or bark peel as explant material for transformation. Also provided are descriptions of several promoter activities in directing reporter gene expression in Taxus media cells, in particular cells in suspension cultures, callus and needles. Transgenic plants (e.g., Taxus plants), plant cells, cell lines, and tissues (including seeds) are also provided, in particular those that express one or more enzymes in a paclitaxel biosynthesis pathway.

摘要: A position sensor is used in conjunction with one or more batons, each baton having a transmitter that transmits a distinct radio frequency signal at a position in space. The position sensor determines the current position of each baton transmitter in terms of X, Y, and Z coordinates. The position sensor includes a tablet having a flat support member, with at least two pairs of electrodes coupled to the flat support member. Each of the electrodes is a separate antenna. A first pair of the electrodes is shaped so that the amount of capacitive coupling between each baton transmitter and the first pair of electrodes corresponds to the position of the baton transmitter with respect to the X axis. A second pair of the electrodes is shaped so that the amount of capacitive coupling between each baton transmitter and the second pair of electrodes corresponds to the position of the baton transmitter with respect to the Y axis. The regions forming the first pair electrodes are preferably interleaved with the regions forming the second pair of electrodes. The X, Y position of the baton can be computed with uniform accuracy anywhere in the X-Y plane by measuring the capacitance values between the baton and the four antennae.

摘要: The present invention is directed to the identification and isolation of a promoter region from a raspberry genome. The promoter is operably linked, in a native raspberry genome, to the coding region of a raspberry E4 gene. The raspberry E4 gene promoter of the invention is capable of regulating moderate level, constitutive expression of a heterologous plant gene under its control. The invention is further directed to chimeric genes, cassette vectors, kits, transgenic plants, and methods employing a raspberry E4 promoter.

摘要: An extendable torque bar has a multi-sided rack member with teeth extending along a side, which fits within a tubular member whose bore has a geometric configuration corresponding to the rack member. The rack member has an adapter for engaging a socket for a nut or bolt, or the like. The tubular member has a second adapter at its rear end for engaging a tool or other driving mechanism. A pawl is supported by an annular member which is affixed to the tubular member. The annular member has an outer surface shaped like the frustum of a cone. The pawl fits through an opening in the annular member and is held in place and pivots about a pivot member projecting through the annular member. The teeth of the pawl contact the teeth of the rack member by extending through a slotted opening in the tubular member. When the pawl teeth are in contact with the rack teeth, the edge of the pawl opposite the side of the pawl containing the teeth coincides with the plane of the outer surface of the annular member. A sleeve fits over the pawl and annular member. The top inner surface of the sleeve corresponds to the outer surface of the annular member and envelops that outer surface. The sleeve is slidable along the tubular shaft and locks the bar when it is urged against the annular member by biasing means.
