    摘要: A data processing system is provided with a digital signal processor that has a set of instructions for intermingling byte fields selected from a selected pair of source operands and storing the ordered result in a selected destination register. A first 32-bit operand is treated as four 8-bit fields while a second 32-bit operand is treated as four 8-bit fields. Intermingling circuitry is operable to form an ordered result in accordance with each one of the set of byte intermingling instructions. An instruction is provided that performs a shift right and byte merge operation. Another instruction is provided that performs a shift left and byte merge operation. Another instruction is provided that perform a byte swap operation. A set of instructions are provided that perform various byte packing and unpacking operations.

    摘要: A method and structure for producing a noise reduced video signal. The data corresponding to a pixel in a first frame is differenced with signal corresponding to that pixel in a second frame. The difference signal is then recursively noise filtered, clipped and a non-linear function is applied. The filtered and clipped difference signal is then multiplied by the difference signal and added back into the original data. The resulting data is motion adapted and noise reduced, and is used in converting from interlace to progressive scan. The method can be integrated with scaling processes as well.

    摘要: A method of pulse width modulation using a spatial light modulator (40) with a finite transition time. The method uses m bits per sample to digitize the incoming data, but apportions the LSB times for pulse width modulation based upon m-1 bits. The current video frame displays all of the bits for each sample, except for the LSBs for each sample. The next video frame displays all of the bits for each sample, adding one more LSB for dividing up the frame time. The first frame could use either the additional LSB time and display no data, or it could use only that number of LSB times it needs. In the latter, the system will have to adjust to different partitions of the frame time for alternating frames. The system includes a spatial light modulator (40), a memory (42), a formatter (48), a sequence controller (44) and a toggle circuit (46), to perform this method.

    摘要: A method and display system for reducing the visual impact of defects present in an image display. The display includes an array of pixels, each non-defective pixel being selectively operable in response to input data by addressing facilities between an "on" state, whereat light is directed onto a viewing surface, and an "off" state, whereat light is not directed onto the viewing surface. A defect is the result of a defective pixel which does not respond to the input data presented by the addressing facilities, typically by continuously remaining in its "on" or "off" state. Each defective pixel is immediately surrounded by a first ring of compensation pixels adjacent to the central defective pixel. The compensation pixels are immediately surrounded by a second ring of reference pixels spaced from the central defective pixel. The addressing circuit-determined value of at least one compensation pixel in the first ring surrounding the defective pixel is changed to a corrective value, in order to reduce the visual impact of the defect.

For the transmitter, the method includes the step of formatting data into a data stream to be communicated across the communications medium. This data stream comprises a plurality of headers (PACK HEADER). Moreover, for each of the plurality of headers, the method performs two steps. First, the method modifies information encoded by the header by performing a bitwise logical operation between selected bits of the header (B) with a predetermined bit pattern (A). Second, the method transmits the plurality of headers on to the communications medium. For the receiver, the method includes the step of receiving the plurality of headers from the communications medium. Additionally, for each of the received headers, the receiver recovers the information encoded by the header.

    摘要: A method and system for reducing the effects of false contouring and reducing color shading artifacts. An image signal 102 is dithered by the addition of a small noise signal from a noise generator 500. The added noise signal breaks up the edges of homogenous blocks of pixels, causing the created image to appear to have a smooth transition from one region to the next. The image dithering is especially useful in digital color image displays where processing performed on the chrominance portion of the image signal often causes quantization errors which lead to sharp transitions between similar shades when the input image included a smooth transition.

The line generator (31) has a motion detector (31a) that determines, on a pixel by pixel basis, whether some part of the current field is in motion. A motion signal from the motion detector (31a) is used to select between outputs of two or more pixel generators (31b, 31c). One of the pixel generators (31b) provides pixel values that are better suited for display when the image is not in motion.
