摘要： An apparatus is provided for controlling the temperature of an engine based on a temperature control signal generated by an electronic control module of the engine. The electronic control module is coupled to a plurality of sensors configured to detect a plurality of engine component parameters and is configured to generate the temperature control signal related to an optimum engine temperature calculated using at least one output signal from at least one of the plurality of sensors. The apparatus includes a controller coupled to the electronic control module and to an engine temperature sensor. The controller generates an output signal based on the temperature control signal received from the electronic control module and on a signal proportional to the actual engine temperature received from the engine temperature sensor. The apparatus also includes an electronically actuated thermostat including a valve located within a coolant flow passageway of the engine and a motor electrically coupled to the controller. The motor is configured to open and close the valve to control flow of a coolant fluid in the coolant flow passageway in response to the output signal from the controller.

摘要： An apparatus is provided for filling an engine cooling system with coolant fluid and for controlling fluid flow through the cooling system using three dimensional weirs in response to changes of an engine cooling system temperature. The apparatus includes a fill housing having an inlet section, an outlet section, and a fill section configured to receive a cap thereon. The inlet section is formed to include a valve seat and a flange for coupling the fill housing to an engine. The apparatus also includes a thermostat and means for coupling the thermostat to the flange to hold the thermostat within the inlet section beneath an outer surface of the flange. The fill housing is formed to include a venturi portion located between the inlet section and the outlet section to provide a pressure drop in the fill housing as fluid flows through the fill housing. The venturi portion is located adjacent the fill section to subject the fill section to the pressure drop as fluid flows through the fill housing.

摘要： A fail-safe thermostat includes a stationary valve member configured to be positioned between conduit components of the engine cooling system, a movable valve member for engaging the valve seat to block fluid flow into the conduit through the opening, an operating spring for biasing the movable valve member to a closed position against the valve seat of the stationary valve member, and a thermally responsive actuator for moving the movable valve member to an open position away from a valve seat when the ambient temperature exceeds a first predetermined temperature to permit fluid flow into the conduit. The apparatus further includes a bimetallic frame member coupled the stationary valve member. The frame member is configured to compress and hold the operating spring in engagement with the movable valve member. The frame member is configured to disengage itself from the stationary valve member when the ambient temperature exceeds a second predetermined temperature and upon failure of the movable valve member to move to its the open position.

The switch unit includes a housing, a portion of which is positioned within a passage in the cooling system of the internal combustion engine. Within the housing is a pressure sensitive member. The pressure sensitive member senses both the temperature and the pressure of the coolant fluid in the coolant system of the internal combustion engine. A visual and/or audible alarm device, which is connected to a switch unit of this invention, thus operates when temperature conditions exist within an engine which are harmful to the engine.

摘要： A worm gear type hose clamp having quick attachment and release features. A housing carries a worm or screw member which is meshable with a toothed or slotted portion of a band. The band has a ramp portion which is, preferably, an integral part thereof. The housing is movable along the ramp portion of the band, from a part of lesser extension to a portion of greater extension, to urge the worm into meshed engagement with the toothed portion of the band. In such position of the housing, the band is tightened or loosened by rotative movement of the worm. The housing also is movable along the ramp portion from the part of greater extension to the part of lesser extension to release the worm from meshed engagement with the toothed portion of the band and to permit free movement of the toothed portion of the band without rotative movement of the worm. The band has portions which limit movement of the housing with respect thereto.
