摘要: Alkali metal-sulfur cells and batteries with cathode layers that store alkali metal charge carriers (e.g., lithium ions) in agglomerates of sulfurized carbon. The cathode layers lack costly and environmentally unfriendly nickel and cobalt. The cathode layers are composites that include agglomerates of sulfurized-carbon particles in a conductive binder and interconnected by sp2-bonded carbon materials, such as carbon nanotubes or nanoribbons, that extend within the agglomerates and between the sulfurized-carbon particles.

摘要: A fast imaging apparatus and method for high resolution diffuse optical tomography with a line imaging and illumination system is disclosed. The method uses an algorithm comprising a convolution approximation of the forward heterogeneous scattering model that can be inverted to produce deeper than ever before structured beneath the surface. The method can detect reasonably accurate boundaries and relative depth of absorption variations up to a depth of approximately 8 mm below highly scattering medium such as skin.

摘要: Provided herein are embodiments of methods and systems for screening cellular, subcellular, and multicellular structures. In one embodiment, a method for screening is provided comprising the steps of introducing a plurality of cellular, subcellular, or multicellular structures, or a combination thereof, to an imaging system, wherein one or more structures of the plurality comprise one or more taggable markers; imaging the plurality of structures using the imaging system; identifying one or more target structures among the plurality of structures based on one or more properties of the target structures; tagging the target structures to produce tagged target structures, wherein each target structure is selectively illuminated by an excitation light, thereby causing one or more taggable markers within the target structure to be phototransformed to produce one or more phototransformed taggable markers within the target structure; and isolating one or more tagged target structures from the plurality of structures.

摘要: Some embodiments are directed to a transcatheter and serially-expandable artificial heart valve, e.g., to be minimally-invasively implanted into a pediatric patient during a first procedure, and then expanded during a second procedure to accommodate for the pediatric patient's growth. Some embodiments include an expandable frame having a compressed, delivery configuration, and an expanded, deployed configuration, in which the valve is implantable within the patient. The valve can have a first working condition when the frame is expanded to a first diameter and a second working condition when the frame is expanded to a second diameter greater than the first diameter. The valve can include a plurality of leaflets configured to accommodate the expansion of the frame and growth of the patient.
