摘要: An air bag comprises a facing sheet and a backing sheet of thermoplastic resin film and laminated on at least an outer peripheral joining region thereof with a thermoplastic resin film. An adhesion reinforcing layer(s) is interposed between the facing sheet and the backing sheet at the joining region and made from a thermoplastic resin provided that an insulating layer is interposed in the adhesion reinforcing layer at a region ranging from a position corresponding to an approximately center of the outer peripheral joining region toward the inside thereof. The facing and backing sheets and the adhesion reinforcing layer are heat-welded together at the outer peripheral joining region.

摘要: A first air bag comprises an upper cloth and a lower cloth, the peripheries of the both cloths being connected, characterized in that the upper cloth consists of an airtight sheet obtained by weaving a composite fiber composed of a filament core and a thermoplastic polymer bonded thereto-which has a melting point lower than that of said filament core, and then fusing said thermoplastic polymer so that the surface of said upper cloth has a continuous thermoplastic polymer layer. A second air bag consists of a membranous material having a breaking extension of 100% or more. A third air bag comprises an elastomer body and a shape-retaining member partially attached to the elastomer body, said member being composed of elastic fibers or threads and high-modulus fibers.

摘要: The invention provides an air bag apparatus which is simple in structure and light in weight while assuring a sufficient strength and wherein a pad cover can be mounted readily onto a base plate by a simplified mounting apparatus. The air bag apparatus has at least an air bag for protecting a driver of a vehicle upon collision of the vehicle, a base plate for mounting thereon a gas generator for inflating the air bag, and a pad cover secured to the base plate for accommodating the air bag and the gas inflator therein. A portion of the base plate is deformed into a predetermined shape to secure the pad cover to the base plate. Preferably, a portion of the base plate is bent to form a side inner face portion and is further folded back to form a side outer face portion, and a terminal portion of the pad cover is held between and secured by the side outer face portion and the side inner face portion of the base plate.

A method of producing the air bag housing pad cover efficiently in high yields from a compound composed of a thermoplastic elastomer and a light filler in an amount of 5 to 50 vol % of the compound, the former having a tensile strength higher than 100 kg/cm.sup.2 and a Shore indentation hardness lower than 55 D, and the latter having a true specific gravity lower than 0.7 and a compression strength higher than 50 kg/cm.sup.2.
