Abstract: A mechanism controls global synchronization, or registration floods, that may result when a large number of endpoints in a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network such as an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) come online simultaneously after a catastrophic failure. The mechanism allows the Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure to efficiently control the overload condition by registering user end points with backup border elements, and by staggering and by randomizing the time-to-live (TTL) parameter in registrations with backup border elements.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a network element operating in a communication system having a controller element to receive from an initiating party a message directed to a subscriber of the communication system, receive from the subscriber a request to present the message, identify the initiating party supplying the message, transmit the identity of the initiating party to a telephone number mapping (ENUM) system with a request for a communication ID of a presence system that monitors the initiating party, transmit to the presence system according to the communication ID a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SUBSCRIBE message requesting presence information of the initiating party, and present the subscriber one or more options to communicate with the initiating party according to the presence information received in a SIP NOTIFY message supplied by the presence system. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A determination is made whether to handle a request associated with a specific number range by a physical telephone number mapping service instance provisioned for handling the request for the specific number range or a virtual telephone number mapping service instance provisioned for handling the request for the specific number range. If it is determined that the request should be handled by the physical telephone number mapping service instance, forwarding of the request from the physical telephone number mapping service instance to the virtual telephone number mapping service instance is prevented. If it is determined that the request should be handled by the virtual telephone number mapping service instance, forwarding of the request from the virtual telephone number mapping service instance to the physical telephone number mapping service instance is prevented.

Abstract: A system for providing video motion augmentation is disclosed. In particular, the system provides mechanisms for analyzing video content, metadata, or a combination thereof, to dynamically enhance and adapt regions of small movements or micro-movements in the video content based on a variety of inputs. The regions of small movements or micro-movements may be enhanced based on device characteristics associated with a device consuming the video content, based on a theme associated with the content, based on sensor data, based on user feedback, and based on a variety of other inputs. For example, motion content in the video content may be enhanced and emphasized based on the display resolution or other device characteristics of a device requesting the video content. Once the enhanced video content is generated based on the inputs, the enhanced content may be provided to the device requesting the content.

Abstract: The use of virtual resources providing communication services is adjusted based on load. Abstract: Virtualization of a physical telephone number mapping service is provided. An amount of memory needed for handling requests from users of a physical telephone number mapping service provided by a communication network is determined. A listing of different virtual machine flavors available for instantiation is searched. Each virtual machine flavor has a different respective memory capacity. A determination is made whether there is a virtual machine flavor available for instantiation that has a memory capacity adequate to handle the requests. Responsive to determining that there is a virtual machine flavor available for instantiation that has the memory capacity adequate to handle the requests, instantiation of the virtual machine flavor is initiated for handling the requests.

Abstract: A system for providing video analysis and motion augmentation, particularly in the context of telemedicine applications is disclosed. In particular, the system may utilize cameras and other devices to detect macro and micro changes and movements of a being so as to assist in the detection of an anomaly associated with the being. After detecting the anomaly based on the detected macro and micro changes and movements, the system may transmit an alert identifying the anomaly and formulate a proposed request for interaction with the being. The request for interaction may be transmitted to the being, and information obtained in response to the request for interaction may be utilized by the system to assist in the determination of a diagnosis of a condition of the being. The process may be repeated as necessary until the diagnosis is confirmed and enough information associated with the being is obtained.
