摘要: A stapedius reflex threshold determination system directs a cochlear implant and a loudspeaker to apply a first electro-acoustic stimulation event to a patient, and determines that a first evoked response that occurs within the patient in response to the first electro-acoustic stimulation event has a level within a predetermined threshold amount of a baseline evoked response level. Based on that determination, the system detects that a stapedius reflex within the patient is not triggered. The system also directs the cochlear implant and the loudspeaker to apply a second electro-acoustic stimulation event to the patient, and determines that a second evoked response that occurs within the patient in response to the second electro-acoustic stimulation event has a level at least the predetermined threshold amount lower than the baseline evoked response level. Based on this determination, the system detects that the stapedius reflex within the patient is triggered.

摘要: An exemplary monitoring system 1) receives a user input command to begin monitoring evoked responses that occur in response to acoustic stimulation during an insertion procedure in which a lead that is communicatively coupled to a cochlear implant is inserted into a cochlea of a patient, the lead having an array of intracochlear electrodes and an extracochlear electrode, the extracochlear electrode physically and communicatively coupled to a probe that is also communicatively coupled to the monitoring system, 2) directs, in response to the user input command, the cochlear implant to short an intracochlear electrode with the extracochlear electrode, 3) presents the acoustic stimulation to the patient, and 4) records the evoked responses that occur in response to the acoustic stimulation by using the intracochlear electrode to detect signals representative of the evoked responses and receiving the detected signals by way of the extracochlear electrode and the probe.

摘要: An exemplary diagnostic system directs a cochlear implant to step through applying a sequence of stimulation events each having a different stimulation level to an electrode set disposed on an electrode lead, detects, while the cochlear implant is stepping through applying the sequence of stimulation events to the electrode set, user input indicating that a stapedial reflex state within the recipient changes from a first reflex state to a second reflex state, identifies a particular stimulation event that corresponds to the change in the stapedial reflex state from the first reflex state to the second reflex state, the particular stimulation event having a particular stimulation level, and graphically presents one or more graphical markers indicating that the stapedial reflex state is the second reflex state at the particular stimulation level.

摘要: An exemplary system includes 1) a sound detector configured to detect an audio signal, 2) an implantable stimulator configured to be implanted within a user, and 3) a sound processor communicatively coupled to the implantable cochlear stimulator and the sound detector. The sound processor is configured to determine that a level of the audio signal exceeds a predetermined threshold and direct, in response to the determination that the level of the audio signal exceeds the predetermined threshold, the implantable stimulator to elicit a stapedial reflex within the user by applying electrical stimulation to one or more stimulation sites within the user. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.

摘要: An illustrative proximity detection system directs a first electrode of an electrode lead to apply a first pulse and directs a second electrode of the electrode lead to apply a second pulse concurrently with the first pulse so as to form a dipole that generates a field. The first and second electrodes are each configured as stimulating electrodes that apply stimulation to the cochlear tissue when the electrode lead is located at a resting position subsequent to a surgical insertion of the electrode lead into a cochlea of a patient. After the pulses are applied, and based on an energy magnitude of the field that is detected to reflect from cochlear tissue located within the field, the proximity detection system determines a proximity of the electrode lead to the cochlear tissue. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.

摘要: An exemplary diagnostic system may be configured to direct an acoustic stimulation generator to apply acoustic stimulation to a recipient of a cochlear implant during an insertion procedure in which an electrode lead coupled to the cochlear implant is supposed to be inserted into a cochlea of the recipient, direct the cochlear implant to use an electrode on the electrode lead to record an evoked response signal that occurs within the recipient in response to the acoustic stimulation, detect an anomaly in the evoked response signal, and determine, based on the anomaly, that the electrode lead is being inserted into a vestibular canal instead of into the cochlea.

The EAS sound processor 1) directs, while in a self-fitting mode, the receiver to apply acoustic stimulation to the patient, 2) records, using at least one electrode included in the electrode array, an evoked response that occurs in response to the acoustic stimulation, 3) compares the evoked response to a baseline evoked response recorded by the EAS sound processor prior to recording the evoked response, and 4) performs a predetermined action based on the comparison between the evoked response and the baseline evoked response. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.
