    摘要: A relaying controller communicates with an external tool through a first communication path based on a first communication protocol and communicates with sub-controllers through a second communication path based on a second communication protocol, thus relaying communications between the external tool and the sub-controllers. The relaying controller includes a rewritable non-volatile memory having predetermined storage areas divided in correspondence with the sub-controllers. The relaying controller transmits, in response to a memory reading request from the sub-controller, a stored data in the corresponding storage area to the sub-controller through the second communication path, and writes, in response to a memory writing request from the sub-controller, a writing data received through the second communication path in the corresponding storage area. That is, the relaying controller executes accesses of the sub-controllers to the non-volatile memory.

    摘要: A vehicle onboard device having characteristics capable of being changed communicates with a vehicle to set a characteristic value to an optimum value. Parameters for setting conditions of an electronic device are called out of an E.sup.2 PROM 14.sub.i of the vehicle 10.sub.i and are transmitted to a technology center 40 via a dealer 20.sub.1, and an information center 30.sub.1. Each dealer 20.sub.1, the information center 30.sub.1, and the technology center 40 accumulate the parameters. The technology center 40 can collect the parameters of numerous vehicles and characteristic values for electronic control of each of the vehicles and can calculate newest and optimum parameters. The technology center 40 transmits this newest and optimum vehicle information to the vehicle 10.sub.i, and each vehicle updates the parameters thereof to these newest and optimum parameters. Accordingly, the parameters of the vehicle are set as the newest parameters.

    摘要: In a data communication system in which many nodes are connected to a common data bus so that each node can communicate with other nodes, a data frame to be transmitted from a node to other nodes includes a message having a variable length interposed between a signal indicating the length of the message and a signal indicating the end of the message in the frame. The message and the signals are coded according to a coding rule such as NRZ, and a bit stuffing rule is applied to the signal indicating the length of the message and the message while another rule violating the bit stuffing rule is applied to the signal indicating the end of the message. When the message length is changed due to noise or other causes in the course of data transmission, the signal indicating the end of the message is clearly detected at a receiving end because it is coded according to a rule different from the rule applied to the message and other signals. Further, since the length of the message actually received at the receiving end can be compared with the signal indicating the length of the message, transmission error can be detected without fail.

    摘要: An alternator for generating electric power is mounted on an automotive vehicle. The alternator includes a housing, a stator fixed in the housing, a rotor driven by an engine of the automotive vehicle, and electric components such as a brush holder. The brush holder is mounted on a rear surface of a rear frame constituting the housing and is covered with a rear cover fixed to the rear frame. The rear cover includes a surrounding wall covering the brush device to prevent water from reaching a brush area. The surrounding wall is composed of plural partial walls having respective radiuses from a rotational axis of the rotor. The surrounding wall may be continuously made by the partial walls. Alternatively, openings for draining water may be formed in the partial walls positioned downward of the rotational axis of the rotor.
