Abstract: A communication device including a housing which includes a front and a surrounding electrically conductive frame, the front including a dielectric cover, where the housing accommodates: a display covered by the cover; an electrically conductive chassis; and at least one substrate including at least one feeding element. Along at least a part of the frame and between the display and the substrate the chassis and the frame are separated from one another by a dielectric-filled intermediate space. Along the part of the frame and between the cover and the dielectric-filled intermediate space the display is separated from the frame by a gap. The dielectric-filled intermediate space together with the frame and the chassis form at least one waveguide structure extending between the substrate and the gap.

Abstract: A communication device for wireless communication includes a housing having a front dielectric cover, a back dielectric cover and a metal frame circumferentially arranged between the front dielectric cover and the back dielectric cover. The metal frame forms a first antenna that is configured to radiate in a first set of frequency bands. The communication device further includes a circuit arranged inside the housing, where the circuit is electrically isolated from the metal frame and includes at least one first feed line coupled to the metal frame and configured to feed the first antenna with a first set of radio frequency signals in the first set of frequency bands. The communication device further includes a second antenna arranged inside the housing.

Abstract: An antenna system for a mobile device includes a first electrically conductive member having a plurality of segments including at least a first corner segment and a central segment that is disposed adjacent to the first corner segment. A dielectric material is disposed in a gap between the first corner segment and the central segment. A second electrically conductive member is disposed within the mobile device. A first end of the second electrically conductive member is connected to the first corner segment. A portion of the second electrically conductive member away from the first end is electrically connected to a first feeding portion. The central segment is connected to a second feeding portion.

Abstract: A beam steering antenna structure comprising a printed circuit board and a conductive component, a first wall and a second wall of the printed circuit board being juxtaposed with a first surface of the conductive component, the second wall abutting and being galvanically connected to the first surface. A second surface of the conductive component extends at an angle from the first surface. A connecting surface extends between the first wall and the second wall such that a groove is formed, the groove being partially juxtaposed to the first surface. The groove comprises a first antenna array and a second antenna array transmitting or receiving, respectively, a first radiation beam and a second radiation beam having orthogonal polarizations. The second surface steers at least one of the first or second radiation beam in a direction away from or towards the connecting surface.

Abstract: An antenna assembly, an apparatus having the antenna assembly, and a method of manufacturing the antenna assembly are disclosed. Antenna performance in, e.g., mobile devices is improved via an antenna assembly which allows wide-angle beam scanning across a wide frequency bandwidth. Wide beam coverage may in turn contribute to improving multi-surface spherical beam coverage, such as in broadside direction and endfire direction, and to reducing the amount of needed antenna modules. Said artificial dielectric structure (3) comprises a plurality of conductor layers (4) separated by dielectric layers (5), each conductor layer (4) comprising a plurality of periodically repeated conductor patterns (6). One conductor pattern (6) of each conductor layer (4) is associated with one of said antenna elements (2a), and the conductor patterns (6) associated with one antenna element (2a) are at least partially non-identical. Said artificial dielectric structure (3) has an artificial dielectric constant, and each dielectric layer has a natural dielectric constant, said artificial dielectric constant depending at least partially on the natural dielectric constants and preferably having a value between 10-30.
This configuration provides a way of achieving multi-surface beam coverage, e.g. by means of end-fire antenna elements as well as broadside antenna elements, while maintaining a compact footprint.-

Abstract: An electronic device and antenna system for generation of millimeter-wave frequency radiation. The antenna system has first conductive structure, a second conductive structure, and an antenna comprising a first antenna element configured to excite a first electric field having a first polarization, and a second antenna element configured to excite a second electric field having a second polarization. The first antenna element and the second antenna element extend in an antenna plane. An anisotropic dielectric volume is partially enclosed by the antenna, the first conductive structure, and the second conductive structure. A first surface of the dielectric volume is open to the exterior of the antenna system. The dielectric volume allows the first and second electric fields to propagate, within the dielectric volume, from the antenna at least partially towards the first conductive structure, and to radiate from the first surface to the exterior.
