    摘要: A method for forming an ablation pattern to electrically isolate a vessel having an ostium from a chamber formed within a patient for treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. The distal portion of a catheter is navigated to a chamber. An anchor member is deployed from the distal end of the catheter into the chamber, and the distal end is navigated into the ostium of the vessel, and temporarily secured in the vessel. An ablation member is deployed from the distal end of the catheter into the chamber and successively navigated into contact with tissue adjacent the ostium and ablating the tissue in contact with the ablation member to form a line of ablation. At least one of the navigating the distal portion of the catheter, navigating the anchor member and navigating the ablation member is performed by applying an external magnetic field to orient the device being navigated.

    摘要: A system for magnetically assisted surgery includes a magnetic support structure, a patient support structure and a magnet having at least four poles attached to the magnetic support structure so that the magnet provides a near-field magnetic field in an operating region of a patient supported by the patient support structure. The magnet is moveable so that the direction of the magnetic field lines in the operating region is adjustable. The magnet may include a pair of essentially semicircular half-segments permanently magnetized and joined in an extremely stable disk configuration. The magnetic field and gradient field provided by the magnet is such that movement of the disk in one plane combined with rotation of the disk is sufficient to orient the magnetic field during surgical use, thereby reducing interference to medical imaging devices needed during surgery. An example of a medical delivery device that may be used for surgery in conjunction with this system is a flexible endoscope or catheter having a series of magnetically permeable rings.

    摘要: A method of localizing a medical device inside a patient's body, the method comprising: transmitting ac magnetic signals between a plurality of points of known location outside of the patient's body and a plurality of points on the medical device inside the patient's body, the signals transmitted between at least some of the points comprising at least two different frequencies; and receiving the transmitted ac magnetic signals and processing the received signals to determine the position of the points on the medical device, and thus the location of the medical device, this processing including correcting for the affects of metal in the vicinity by using the transmitted and received signals at different frequencies. In an alternate embodiment, a reference device is provided inside the patients' body, and the medical device is localized relative to the reference catheter. The use of signals comprising at least two frequencies may or may not be used in this relative localization embodiment, but preferably is used at least to localize the reference catheter.

    摘要: A catheter assembly for an intravascular ultrasound system includes an imaging core configured and arranged for inserting into a distal end of a lumen of a catheter. The imaging core includes at least one transducer mounted to a driveshaft and configured and arranged for transforming applied electrical signals to acoustic signals and also for transforming received echo signals to electrical signals. A motor is coupled to the driveshaft between the one or more transducers and the transformer. The motor includes a rotatable magnet and at least two magnetic field windings disposed around at least a portion of the magnet.
