    摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for generating and updating a concept dictionary 140 in respect of an information system 125 and for using that concept dictionary to assist in selecting queries and query terms for use in interrogating that information system 125. A lexical reference source 115 is first used to generate queries semantically related to a query 110 entered by a user, and the answers returned for each query are analysed using a fuzzy processing technique (135) to determine semantic relationships between the queries. The queries and the determined relationships are recorded in a concept dictionary 140 for subsequent use.

    摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for generating, from an input set of documents, a word replaceability matrix defining semantic similarity between words occurring in the input document set. For each word, distinct word sequences of predetermined length are identified from the documents of the set, each word sequence being indicative of the context in which the word was used and, according to the relative frequency of occurrence of the identified word sequences for the word, fuzzy sets are generated for each word comprising membership values for corresponding groups of word sequences. For each pair of words occurring in the document set, their respective fuzzy sets are used to calculate the probability that the first word of a pair is semantically suitable as a replacement for the second word of the pair, these probabilities being collated to form a word similarity matrix for use in an improved method of determining document similarity and in information retrieval.

    摘要： A tool for aligning the leads or pins of a connector while they are inserted in the holes of the electronic package to which the connector will be attached is described. Guide rails, which are attached to a fixed-block on one end and a removable slidable block at the other end, are placed between the leads to align them in one direction. A comb having protruding teeth is positioned so that the teeth are placed between the leads in a direction perpendicular to the guide rails. The guide rails and teeth align and constrain the leads in the same pattern as the holes of the package and a clamp holds the guide rails and teeth in place. After the leads have been started to be inserted in the holes of the electronic package the comb is removed. The slidable block is removed from one end of the guide rails, and the guide rails are pulled out of their position between the leads. The connector leads are then fully inserted into the holes.
