Abstract: The invention relates to fluoropolymer composites having a fluoropolymer matrix containing a functionalized fluoropolymer composition, and reinforced with fibers. The fibers can be chopped fibers, long fibers, or a mixture thereof, and the fluoropolymer matrix preferably is based on polyvinylidene fluoride. Any type of fibers, sized or unsized may be used with the functionalized fluoropolymer matrix composition to form the fluoropolymer composite.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process to produce a stable fluoropolymer latex using non-fluorinated surfactant with greater thermal stability. The polymerization is run at pressures greater than typically used. Abstract: A fluoropolymer-based powdered composition is disclosed. The fluoropolymer has a very low melt viscosity, of less than 2 kilopoise (kP) at 230° C. and 100 s−1 and molecular weights of from 15 kDa to 200 kDa. The composition can be used for powder coating or rotolining processes. The coatings or interior surfaces of the coated or rotolined parts exhibit roughness values, Ra, of less than 25 μin (0.64 μm) corresponding to very smooth surfaces. The coating exhibit very good adhesion to substrates with and without surface preparation as well as very good adhesion to substrates with and without primer.

Abstract: The invention relates to sized reinforcing fibers that comprise a reinforcing fiber sized with a fluoropolymer. The fluoropolymer is functionalized and/or the reinforcing fiber is sized with a compatible functional non-fluorinated polymer that is compatible with the fluoropolymer. Functionalization of the fluoropolymer or the compatible non-fluorinated polymer provides enhanced properties, such as increased adhesion to the reinforcing fiber.

Abstract: The invention relates to a low coagulum fluoropolymer latex containing little or no surfactant, and having a high fluoropolymer solids content. The polymerization is run at temperatures somewhat greater than typically used. The latex can be dried into a solid resin, in which little or no surfactant is present, without using an ion exchange, washing, or other added unit operation. The invention also relates to the process for forming the high solids, latex, using little or no surfactant.

Abstract: The invention relates to very high melt flow fluoropolymer compositions, having low melt viscosities. The fluoropolymers have low molecular weights of from 5 kDa to 200 kDa and melt viscosities of less than 2 kilopoise (kP) at 232° C. and 100 s−1. One use for the high melt flow fluoropolymers is in the formation of very small diameters fibers, useful for melt-blown non-woven materials. Fiber diameters of less than 9 microns, and preferably 500 to 2000 nm can be produced.
