A circuit for power on data line (PoDL) injection includes a power source, a first and a second coupling component, and an interface. The power source provides one or more DC voltage levels. The first coupling component couples the power source to an interface for coupling to a transmission medium. An Ethernet device is coupled through the second coupling component to the interface. The first coupling component is a balanced component, and the Ethernet device is isolated from the power source via a pair of DC blocking capacitors connected between the first coupling component and the second coupling component.

A system to implement a communication line coding scheme using a non-complex bit-to-symbol mapping, a forward error correction (FEC) coding, and an additive bit scrambler after the FEC at the PHY layer is provided. The system may be a part of or implemented by an automobile component. The system may be a PHY device configured to convert data from the MAC layer into 2D-PAM3 symbols that are transmitted across a communication link at a predetermined transmission rate, such as to be compliant with a communication standard. The PHY device may select characteristics of the conversion, such as the FEC coded symbol, based on the target transmission rate. The PHY device may include a transceiver, and may convert the data from MAC layer to PHY layer and back.

The processor then processes the one or more signals to generate 2D DFE soft slicer outputs and to decode the one or more signals based on the 2D DFE soft slicer outputs to generate estimates of information encoded within the one or more signals. The processor may process the 2D DFE soft slicer outputs to generate 2D DFE hard decisions and then generates other estimates of the information encoded based on the 2D DFE hard decisions.

Multiplexed packet local area networking using an Ethernet physical layer device. In one embodiment, a network device having dual port Ethernet physical layer devices can be configured to receive a packet on a first Ethernet port. The network device can extract first packet data that is destined for the network device from the data section of the packet and insert second packet data that is destined for the gateway node into the packet to produce a modified packet. The modified packet is then transmitted by the network device over a second Ethernet port.

A method for frequency synchronization of a multiport device may include recovering a clock frequency of a master port of a first device that is linked to the multiport device at a slave port of the multiport device. A clock frequency of the slave port may be locked to the recovered-clock frequency of the master port of the first device. Frequency data may be stored in a first frequency register associated with the slave port. The stored frequency data may include a difference between the recovered-clock frequency of the master port of the first device and a local-clock frequency of the multiport device. A clock frequency of one or more master ports of the multiport device may be synchronized with the locked clock frequency of the slave port by coupling the first frequency register to frequency registers associated with one or more master ports.

System, method and apparatus for time-sensitive energy efficient networks. When a network device transitions from an active mode to a low power idle (LPI) mode, refresh signaling periods can be used to communicate time synchronization information between link partners. The passage of time synchronization information in a non-packet form enables the link partner to perform an action associated with a time-sensitive network application upon transitioning of the link partner from the low power idle mode to the active mode.
