    摘要： Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma and taste of a smoking tobacco comprising adding to said smoking tobacco an organoleptic property modifying quantity of a composition of matter comprising more than 50% trans,trans-.DELTA.-damascone and in addition a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma and taste of a smoking tobacco comprising adding to said smoking tobacco in an organoleptic property modifying quantity a product produced according to the process of (i) reacting 1-alpha-acetyl-2-alpha,6,6-trimethyl-3-cyclohexene with strong base in aqueous ethanol at reflux thereby producing 1-alpha-acetyl-2-beta,6,6-trimethyl-3-cyclohexene; (ii) reacting the 1-alpha-acetyl-2-beta,6,6-trimethyl-3-cyclohexene with n-methyl aniline Grignard thereby forming a first organometallic compound; (iii) reacting said first organometallic compound with acetaldehyde thereby forming a second organometallic compound; (iv) reacting said second organometallic compound with acid in order to hydrolyze said second organometallic compound thereby forming a hydroxy ketone having the structure: ##STR1## in admixture with other compounds; (v) dehydrating said hydroxy ketone in admixture with other compounds thereby forming a mixture having a major proportion of trans, trans-.DELTA.-damascone having the structure: ##STR2## in admixture with cis, trans-.DELTA.-damascone having the structure: ##STR3## and in admixture with other compounds; and in addition smoking tobacco products containing same.

    摘要： Processes and compositions are described for use in foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste and medicinal product flavor and aroma, smoking tobacco flavor and aroma and perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing and imparting compositions; and as foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste, medicinal product, smoking tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma and/or flavor imparting materials of 2,6,6-trimethyl-.alpha.-(iso)propenyl-1-cyclohexene-1-methanol and -1,3-cyclohexadiene-1-methanol derivatives or one or more of their geometric or stereoisomers as defined by the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 is methyl and the other two of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represents hydrogen; the dashed line is a carbon-carbon double bond or a carbon-carbon single bond; with the proviso that when R.sub.1 is hydrogen, the dashed line is a carbon-carbon double bond.Addition of one or more of the 2,6,6-trimethyl-.alpha.-(iso)propenyl-1-cyclohexene-1-methanols or -1,3-cyclohexadiene-1-methanols of our invention to consumable materials is indicated to produce:A. In foodstuffs, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products, sweet, camphoraceous, damascenone, raspberry-like, raspberry juice-like, rosey, woody/ionone-like, oriental, tobacco-like, tea-like, grape-like, fruity and ionone-like aromas and flavor notes;B. In perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, leathery, hay, woody, mustard, minty, spicey (clove) and pulegone-like aromas and hay/tobacco and honey ionone-like topnotes with safronal-like nuances; andC. In tobaccos and tobacco flavors, a sweet-musty, hay-tobacco-like, fruity-raspberry, ionone-like aroma prior to smoking and a fruity tobacco-like, Virginia tobacco-like aroma on smoking both in the main stream and in the side stream.

    摘要： Described is a process for preparing several substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl acyl alkanoates defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together complete a cycloalkyl moiety or methyl, dimethyl or trimethyl substituted cycloalkyl moiety containing five or six carbon atoms in the ring and wherein R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 lower alkyl and R.sub.4 is methyl or hydrogen by reacting a compound having the generic structure: ##STR2## in an aqueous silver-ion containing solution having a weakly acidic pH at elevated temperatures. The compounds so produced are useful for their organoleptic properties in consumable materials, such as foodstuffs, foodstuff flavorants, chewing gums, chewing gum flavorants, toothpastes, toothpaste flavorants, medicinal products, medicinal product flavorants, chewing tobaccos, chewing tobacco flavorants, smoking tobaccos, smoking tobacco flavorants, perfume compositions, perfumed articles, such as cationic, anionic, nonionic and zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, drier-added fabric softener articles, textile sizing agents and optical brighteners for textiles as well as colognes.
