摘要: An axial vane rotary device (14) includes a stator (16)with a cylindrical internal chamber (34) defined an annular outer wall (40) and two side walls (36, 38) of the stator. Each side wall has an annular cam surface (42, 44). A rotor (54) is rotatably mounted within the chamber. The rotor has an annular outer wall (66) and a plurality of angularly spaced-apart, axially extending slots (64) extending therethrough. A vane (68) is slidably received in each slot. The vanes reciprocate axially and alternatively expand and compress spaces between adjacent vanes and the cam surfaces as the rotor rotates. The cam surfaces have alternating first portions (92) and second portions (90). The second portions are further from the rotor than the second portions. The first portions of one said cam surface are aligned with second portions of another said cam surface. The slots extend radially outwards on the rotor to the annular outer wall thereof. The outer edge of each vane slidably engages the annular outer wall of the stator. The outer wall of the stator may have a guide cam (96) and the vanes may each have a follower (98) received by the guide cam. The guide cam is shaped to cause the vanes to reciprocate axially with respect to the rotor as the rotor rotates. Each of the vanes may have resiliently biased first seals (110, 112) extending along the inner edge (106) and second seals (134) along side edges (70, 72) thereof.

摘要: An injector for a diesel engine is provided which includes a housing having an internal bore, and a reciprocating plunger disposed within the bore and coacting therewith to pump fuel, dampen plunger movement, and quickly vent fuel pressure to provide a sharp end of injection. The bore is generally coextensive with the housing and a spray tip is attached to the end of the bore to introduce fuel into a combustion chamber. The plunger forms a chamber at the end of the bore that expands to admit fuel and contracts to express fuel as the plunger reciprocates within the bore. The chamber has an upper portion that pumps fuel and a lower sealable portion that entraps fuel to dampen plunger movement. The plunger and bore also form a reciprocating spill valve above the chamber to vent fuel pressure. An internal inlet passage supplies fuel to the pumping chamber portion. An internal spray passage connects the pumping chamber portion to the spray tip. The spill valve communicates with the chamber. An internal relief passage connects the spill valve to an exit port.

摘要: This disclosure deals with a fuel supply system for a compression ignition, internal combustion engine, which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture. The system includes a plurality of fuel injectors, one injector for each combustion chamber of the engine, and a common fuel supply rail which is connected to all of the injectors. Means is provided to regulate the fuel pressure in the supply rail. The injectors are normally closed but they are sequentially actuated to inject fuel by operation of an injector control circuit. Each injector includes a pintle-type nozzle which normally is held closed by a force applying device, and the control circuit operates to remove the force applying device from each injector in turn. The nozzle of an actuated injector then opens by an amount that is a function of the pressure in the rail, and the quantity of fuel injected is related to the fuel pressure.

摘要: The disclosure illustrates a fuel mileage indicator which gives a dynamic reading of the fuel mileage for a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. As a result it indicates to the driver whether he is driving efficiently and is conserving fuel. The device consists of a variable resistance device responsive to a fuel system parameter or other engine parameter which is proportional to engine fuel flow. This variable resistance device is connected in series with a generator having a D.C. voltage output directly proportional to vehicle speed. An ammeter indicates current through the circuit and is calibrated to give an output of miles per gallon.
