Abstract: A method for analyzing a component is provided. The method includes the steps of: (iii) providing the electrophoretic or thermophoretic movement of the component into a second fluid flow; (iv) diverting a part of a first fluid flow, a part of the second fluid flow, or parts of the first fluid flow and the second fluid flow, wherein the diverted part is a third fluid flow which includes, the component; (v) contacting the third fluid flow with a fourth fluid flow, such as to form a laminar flow; (vi) providing the diffusion of the component into the fourth fluid flows.

Abstract: A method of determining diffusion coefficient of one or more components in a polydisperse sample is provided. The method comprising the steps of: introducing an auxiliary fluid flow into a fractionation channel; introducing the polydisperse sample comprising one or more components into the fractionation channel; allowing the sample and the auxiliary fluid to create a combined flow; fractionating the combined flow into two or more fractions by diffusive sizing; subsequently separating two or more components from each fraction by creating a distribution of the components within a separation channel; detecting a characteristic of each the two or more components in each fraction; and comparing the characteristic of each component in each fraction in order to determine the diffusion coefficient of each of the one or more components in the polydisperse sample.

Abstract: A microfluidic device (11) is provided for separation and analysis of microfluidic samples. The device comprises: a separation channel (10); a first electrolyte channel (12) configured to provide a flow of high conductivity electrolyte solution, in use; and provided with a positive electrode (13) at a downstream outlet of the channel; a second electrolyte channel (14) configured to provide a flow of high conductivity electrolyte solution, in use, and provided with a negative electrode (15) at a downstream outlet of the channel; and wherein the flow of electrolyte through the first and second electrolyte channels removes electrophoresis products and gas bubbles from the device; and wherein the presence of the electrolyte provides a substantially homogenous electric field across the separation channel.

Abstract: A fluidic device is provided. The fluidic device comprises a separation channel having at its upstream end a junction, a first channel for supplying a first fluid flow, a second channel for supplying a second fluid flow. The first and second channels meet at the junction are adapted to provide the first fluid flow in the separation channel sheathed by the second fluid flow, such that the first fluid flow does not contact the separation channel walls. The separation channel, the first and second channels are provided as a unitary piece, or where the separation channel and the first and second channels are provided as a non-unitary piece comprising a plurality of parts, the parts are of the same material.

The microfluidic analysis modules are configured to provide multi-dimensional analysis of the particles. Furthermore, a fluidic flow adaptor (20) allows for controlled flow between separator (16) and the microfluidic network to provide a continuous fluid flow.

Abstract: A flow apparatus for detecting a component on a surface is provided. The flow apparatus, comprising an inlet for receiving a solution of the components to be detected; a detection chamber in fluid connection with and downstream from the inlet, and in fluid connection with a downstream outlet, wherein the internal surface of the detection chamber comprises a plurality of detection zones and the detection zones are configured to adhere to the component to be detected such that the component is immobilised in the detection zones; a detector for detecting components immobilised on each of the detection zones; and a director for directing the flow of the solution of the components to each of the detection zones in sequence, wherein the director is provided by flow rates.
