摘要: A solid-state light source (10) comprising a plurality of LED units (12) arrayed to emit light generally about an axis (14). Each of the LED units (12) can comprise a number of LEDs, for example, up to five. They may all emit in a single color or multiple colors can be combined for a specific effect. A light transmissive light guide (16) is associated with the LED units (12) and has a plurality of input widows (18). Each LED unit (12) faces a respective input window (18) and each window (18) transversely intercepts the axis (14) and receives light from the LED units (12). The input windows (18) lead to a common output window (20) that is axially aligned with the input windows (18). The light guide (16) has smooth sidewalls (22) that extend between the input windows (18) and the output window (20).

摘要: An LED lamp (10) having a substantially concave heat sink (12) having a raised, frusto-conical center (14) surrounded by an outer rim (16). The heat sink (12) is preferably aluminum or other metal and at least the frusto-conical center preferably has a reflective coating. To further aid in heat removal the outer rim (16) can be provided with a plurality of apertures (16a). A side-emitting LED (18) is mounted on the frusto-conical center (14). A cover (26) is fixed to the outer surface (22) and defines a volume (28) between the frusto-conical center (14) and the cover (26). A circuit (30) is located within the volume (28) and an electrical connection (32) provides connection to the LED (18). In another embodiment a cover (26a) is provided with studs (54) and a reflector (42a) is provided with studs (56) that engage barbs (50) formed in a heat sink (12a).

摘要: A high-density LED array (10) capable of presenting a density of X LEDs/unit area has a first printed circuit board (12) having X/2 LEDs/area and X/2 apertures arrayed therewith. A second printed circuit board (22) is spaced from the first printed circuit board (12) and has X/2 LEDs 28/unit area. The LEDs (28) on the second printed circuit board are aligned with the apertures (20) in the first printed circuit board. Each of the LEDs (28) on the second printed circuit board (22) has an optical fiber (30) associated therewith and each of the light guides (30) extends through one of the apterures (20). Each of the mounted LEDs on the first printed circuit board can have an optical fiber associated therewith and the light guides can be bundled to direct light to a remote source.

摘要: An LED light source has a housing having a base. A core projects from the base; is substantially cylindrical and is surrounded by tubes. The core and the base are arrayed about a longitudinal axis. A circuit board in the base supports LEDs. Each of the LEDs is positioned with one of the tubes in a one-to-one relationship at one end of the core. A heat sink is positioned in a heat-transferring relationship with the circuit board and a first reflector is attached to another end of the core. To direct the light emitted by the LEDs from the source to the reflector, the interior of the tubes can be plated with a highly reflective material. In one embodiment, each of the tubes is fitted with a light guide, each light guide extending from a position immediately above one of the LEDs to a position adjacent the reflector.

摘要: A solid-state light source (10) that is compatible with the existing sockets normally reserved for filamented lamps (100). The solid-state light source (10) comprises a hollow base (12) formed to mechanically and electrically adapt to an existing socket normally reserved for lamps (100). A sub-assembly (14) is adapted to cooperate with and fit into the hollow base (12). The sub-assembly (14) comprises a circuit board (16) with a plurality of solid-state light sources (18) mechanically and electrically connected to one side (20) of the circuit board. Two electrical contacts (22, 24) are positioned on the other side (26) of the circuit board for connection to an electrical circuit. A light pipe (28) covers the plurality of light sources (18) and extends away therefrom to a terminal end (30). A light radiator (34) is affixed to the terminal end (30) and a light-opaque shroud (33) surrounds the light pipe (32) to keep all of the light generated by the solid-state light source within the light pipe (32) to exit out of the light radiator (34).

摘要: The multi-color light lamp has a base divided into a plurality of segments. The three segments are spaced at 120 degrees. More or less segments can be used. An LED is positioned in each segment, the LED in each segment emits a color distinct from the light emitted by the LEDs in the other segments. If the lamp is to be used for automotive purposes, the LED in a first segment emits red light as a taillight and a stop light, the LED in a second segment emits yellow light a turn signal lamp, and the LED in the third segment emits white light as a backup light. A light pipe is operatively associated with the LEDs in each segment for directing emitted light away from the base. The LEDs (preferably two per segment) are mounted upon a thermally efficient printed circuit board such as a flex-on aluminum board.

摘要: A vehicle headlamp (10) has a first light source (12) for illuminating an area forward of the light source (12). The first light source (12) is preferably a filamented tungsten halogen capsule or an arc discharge source. The first light source (12) is arrayed along a longitudinal axis (14) and emits substantially white light. A second light source (16) in the form of a plurality of light emitting diodes is arrayed about the first light source (12), and the second light source (16) emits light via an optic 42 for providing a daylight running light. Via the optic 42 light is emitted in a forward direction as well as toward the reflector to increase the lighting area.

摘要: A lamp (10) has a cup-shaped body (12) with a planar bottom (14) with an up-standing, peripheral sidewall (16) defining a top (18). The body (12) is thermally conductive and preferably is a metal such as aluminum. A reflective coating (20) is provided on the inside surface of the planar bottom (14) and side wall (16) for reflecting light generated by a single, side emitting LED (22) that is mounted on a thermally conductive, electrically insulating coupling (24) and is positioned substantially in the center of the planar bottom (14). A lens (26) for directing a beam of light emitted from the LED (22) in a desired direction is provided and preferably is a Fresnel optic. The lens (26) can close the opening (18) as shown in FIG. 1 or it can be formed as an integral part of bottom (14) or it can be added to the bottom (14), as shown in FIG. 2. Alternatively, the lens (26) can be solid with the lens elements either external (FIG. 4) or internal (FIG. 5). Electrical connections (28, 30) to the LED extend through the cup-shaped body (14).
