    Abstract: A remote node device including a hardware layer, a hardware abstraction layer, and a software stack operating on the hardware abstraction layer. The software stack including an open-source cloud-based operating system integrated with a service provider defined abstraction layer configured to coordinate functionality of the software stack, virtualized software components such as a virtualized Converged Cable Access Platform (vCCAP) implemented in docker containers where the vCCAP is configured to command and control the remote node device with respect to a customer premise equipment. The software layer of the remote node device includes different types of YANG data models for model-driven management and model-driven telemetry from the remote node device and a customer premise equipment to a service provider back-office system.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods related to software architectures in a multiprocessor-based access device used in a content delivery and/or service provider network. In one embodiment, a software architecture is provided for a cable modem using a first type of digital processor (e.g., RISC core or similar), and a second type of digital processor (e.g., multi-core CPU). In one variant, the RISC processor is used as a cable modem stack processor, and the CPU processor is used as an application processor. A Linux (e.g., OpenWrt)-based software architecture is used wherein software components placed on both processors can communicate to effectuate, e.g., configuration changes to the device (including the cable modem stack). A mechanism to establish communications between the two different processor domains and retrieve the requested information based on existing (e.g., RPC) protocols is also disclosed.

    Abstract: At a customer premises equipment (CPE) device in a broadband network, an invocation of a speed test by an auto-configuration server (ACS) is obtained. The invocation includes an activity detection threshold and an activity detection period. Responsive to the invocation, average interface utilization for the customer premises equipment (CPE) device is determined over the activity detection period. Responsive to the determining indicating that the average interface utilization for the customer premises equipment (CPE) device over the activity detection period does not exceed the activity detection threshold, the customer premises equipment (CPE) device cooperates with a speed test server to execute a speed test on the customer premises equipment (CPE) device using a speed test tool.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring, reporting, and managing operational status and configuration of a smart amplifier which includes a radio frequency amplifier unit and transponder. A smart amplifier includes a radio frequency (RF) amplifier unit, a transponder including a transponder component integrated with a telemetry agent, and a controller. The RF amplifier unit configured to process a signal received via a cable access network. The transponder is configured to collect telemetry data from the received signal and stream the collected telemetry data to a service processing platform. The controller configured to remotely configure the RF amplifier unit based on information received from the service provider processing platform, the information based on the streamed telemetry data.

    Abstract: A system includes multiple different types of monitor resources to monitor attributes of communication through a gateway of subscriber domain. The communication system receives identities of communication devices operated in a network of a subscriber domain and, via a first monitor resource, monitors traffic flow associated with the communication devices. A second monitor resource of the communication system monitors latency associated with communications from the gateway resource to the communication devices. A third monitor resource of the communication system monitors spectral energy in upstream and downstream ports of the communication system to determine a health of same. A communication management resource communicates the monitored information to a remote management resource that provides modeling, storage, and/or display of the respective monitor to a user.

    Abstract: This disclosure introduces a novel device-initiated power saving scheme that enables the device (such as a ONU or other suitable entity) to achieve efficiencies during power emergencies and enables new communication features with a communication management resource (such as an OLT or other suitable entity) and the monitoring of systems deep in a service provider's network. Additionally, the new power saving techniques as described herein are fully compatible with existing operational power saving methods. Further, new messages supporting telemetry data can be used to plan back office support expansion needs, identify subscribers that are eligible for enhanced service offers and other uses.
