The present invention relates to inner coatings of metal food containers and packaging and to a process for their production. The coatings are appied to the inside of at least a portion of the surface area of containers that are in direct contact with foods or other consumable products and subsequently cured. The coatings include a) at least one polyisocyanate containing an average of at least two NCO groups per molecule, at least 95% of the NCO groups being blocked with a blocking agent, and b) at least one polyhydroxyl compound containing an average of at least two hydroxyl groups per molecule that react with NCO groups.

The present invention relates to aqueous coating compositions containing A) at least one polyisocyanate which contains an average of at least two NCO groups per molecule and in which at least 85% of the NCO groups are blocked with a blocking agent selected from ε-caprolactam and/or a hydroxycarboxylic acid, and B) at least one hydrophilic polyester polyol containing an average of at least two reactive hydroxyl groups per molecule, or a mixture of hydrophilic and non-hydrophilic polyester polyols, wherein component B) has an acid number of ≧15 mg KOH/g, a hydroxyl number of 20 to 300 mg KOH/g and a weight average molecular weight, Mw, of >1500 g/mol, wherein the equivalent ratio between the blocked isocyanate groups of component A) and the isocyanate-reactive groups of component B) is 0.5 to 5.0:1. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing these aqueous coating compositions, to coatings obtained from these aqueous coating compositions, particularly coatings for packaging and for the interior of cans.

The present invention relates to a stabilized, aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic, blocked polyisocyanates which havei) isocyanate groups blocked with CH-acidic esters,ii) a content of blocked isocyanate groups (calculated as NCO, MW 42) of 5 to 20, preferably 7 to 15 wt. %, based on the solids content of the blocked polyisocyanate andiii) a content of formaldehyde of 0.1 to 5 wt. %, based on the solids content of the blocked polyisocyanate.The present invention also related to a process for the preparation of these stabilized, blocked polyisocyanates and to their use in one-component polyurethane stoving compositions, which may be cured at relatively low stoving temperature of about 100.degree. C., as crosslinking agents for organic polyhydroxy compounds.
