Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for facilitating the implementation of an operations, administration, and management (OAM) protocol in a network overlay environment. In particular, aspects of the technology facilitating the transport of OAM communications across overlay environments of different types. Aspects of the technology can include steps for receiving a packet comprising an OAM payload, and encapsulating the packet with an OAM transport header, wherein the transport header is configured to be read by transit nodes of different overlay types.

Abstract: A first network node of a computer network discovers a host route by leveraging a temporary host route on the control plane of the computer network. The first network node receives, from a source host, a request for a host route associated with a destination host. The first network node determines that it has not previously stored the host route associated with the destination host, and generates a temporary host route associated with the destination host. The first network node propagates the temporary host route across the control plane of the computer network, causing each respective network node to discover if the destination host is connected to the respective network node.

Abstract: Techniques for automatically claiming switches of a tenant computer network by a remote, cloud-based network controller. A first seed switch is manually claimed by a user by implementing the remote, cloud-based network controller. After claiming the seed switch a set of switches immediately connected with the seed switch are identified by Device Connector logic in the seed switch and immediately connected switches. Switches directly connected to those switches are then identified using Device Connector logic of the switches. This process is performed iteratively by identifying immediately connected switches until all of the switches are identified. All or a subset of the identified switches can then be claimed by the remote, cloud-based controller based on a response from the tenant network user.

Abstract: In response to a path monitoring task for a particular source/destination pair, a network controller determines whether stored information includes paths for the particular source/destination pair. When the stored information includes paths for the particular source/destination pair, a subset of source ports is selected that covers all the paths for the particular source/destination pair. A probe message is sent to cause an ingress switch to send probe packets using the subset of source ports. Paths for the particular source/destination pair are computed based on received probe packets. A determination is made whether a topology for the data center network has changed by comparing the paths computed based on the receive probe packets for the particular source/destination pair with the paths included in the stored information for the particular source/destination pair.

Abstract: The subject technology relates to methods for identifying network routes. In some aspects, the method can include steps for transmitting a first query to a network controller, the first query identifying a destination node for a traffic flow routed by the first network node, wherein the first query is configured to cause the network controller perform operations including: identify at least one egress node between the first network node and the destination node, transmit a second query to the at least one egress node to determine entropy information relative to the egress node, and transmit the entropy information to the first network node in response to the first query. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.
